To say that early mornings are chaos at my house is an understatement......
My 5 and 3 year old must be at kindergarten at 9am, so I wait until 8 to wake them up and thats when all hell breaks loose.
In between getting my older monkeys fed, teeth cleaned, washed and dressed, I somehow have to find the time also, to give the baby a bottle and some breakfast too. Luckily thats when farleys dried breakfasts come in extremely handy

You can buy a 100g box for 2.19 GBP (these are mostly for the savoury meals) or a 125g box for 2.09 GBP (this includes most of the breakfast and dessert meals)
The blue box is covered in so much information for the customer, including the ingrediants, nutritional value, feeding advice and feeding table, as well as a brief history of Farleys (which is a Heinz company, I have learnt from reading the box)
Please read the box carefully before buying to see if the product is gluten free or suitable for vegetarians. This is clearly labelled on the side of each box.
Making up these meals is a simple, as all you have to do is switch on your kettle, as they all just require water to rehydrate them. Follow the feeding table on the back of the box as to how much powder and water you require from the foil package. I find this to be a useful guideline, although I find myself sometimes having to make some more up as it isnt enough for my baby. But as its so easy to make this is no problem.
I was shocked at first by how little powdered food I was recommended to use for my baby. It says that I only need 2 level tablespoons for a 4 month old baby and it looks like nothing. But on adding the water was suprised at how easily the water was absorbed and unlike some other brands of powdered baby food I have used there was no clumping. The powder doubled its size and was extemely creamy and the smell was immediately recognisable to the flavour I had chosen. The taste of the flavours I have used, are true to their names and I often find myself scoffing any leftovers as they are really yummy.
After initially cutting open the foil packaging you could reseal it by using a clip, but I just put mine back in its box and store them in a dark cupboard. If I dont use them for a while the contents do settle, but this problem is easily resolved by loosening with a spoon. The use by date is displayed at the bottom of each box and I find you generally have a good year and a half to get through it.
Each meal is highly nutritious, but I personally would not recommend any parent using these day in and day out as there really is no substitute for freshly home made food. But they are practical for parents who like myself am forever on the go and have many mouths to feed, as you know baby can quickly and easily be feed in between all the chaos of a 'NORMAL' family life. I often take a sealed plastic bowl of powder with me when I am visiting friends or going out for the day with the family (taking along a flask of hot water too).
I am not sure if I find Farleys good value for money as I personally only get about 5 or 6 meals from a 125g box. That works out at about 40 pence a meal, which I guess isnt too bad if you just have the one child. But I have 5 and this seems too much. I have found other dried meals which work out cheaper.
Saying that I think Farleys have got a wonderful product here and the variety is in itself a big bonus for them. With so many baby foods on the market it is hard for any parent to choose what is best for their baby. Although Farleys works well for my son, it may not be compatable with the tastes of another, but I would recommend at least given these meals a chance, because as i said earlier its the practicality that is so appealing.
And back on the home front.........well I never expected to produce such highly exciteable and downright lunitic sons, but I have.......so while breakfast time, lunch time and dinner time may ressemble the scene from ANIMAL HOUSE where they have a good old food fight.......at least I know I can leave them to it and find solice in feeding my baby with Farleys......saying that he is at that age now where he could quite easily give back what he gets and he too now ends up covering himself and me in half his food. One bit of advice for when you are feeding your baby anything.....if he looks like he is going to sneeze.....RUN
Advantages: An old time favourite trusted for years Disadvantages: Can be messy as a finger food
I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid I always remember Rusk’s. Whether it was as a snack or in some milk as a cereal, it’s one of them taste and textures I can’t forget. In fact, when I was pregnant with Aaliyah I actually had a craving for them quite badly. Had to be the pink Original box, I bought them at the time for Charisma and she wasn’t keen, still they fed my craving and were also a great source for vitamins too, what better way to ... ...baby food? Strange logic I know but at the time it made sense to me in my pregnant state. I am still a huge fan of Rusk’s today and occasionally have a nibble, which is why I thought I would do this op on Farley’s Original Rusk’s.
The Packaging
The packaging for the original packet is as follows. On the front of the box there’s a pink oval shape with 2 teddy bears sitting down eating a bowl of rusks amongst some wheat sheaths. On one side you have ...

Farleys Rusks, not just a childhood addiction! Originally made in my hometown of Plymouth, I could easily have been forgiven for despising the sight, the thought or the taste of them. The aroma used to waft over the whole of the city Instead it fuelled my passion for these oversize delicious biscuits, which incidentally are designed for weaning small babies, and as a finger food for older babies and toddlers. Sold in boxes of 9 or 18, they can cost ... ...for invalids and the elderly, as they appear to be very easy to digest. Available in various flavours there are both savoury and sweet, I still prefer the original. Although they do contain a lot of sugar, good dental hygiene is a real must. I am told that my addiction started at an early age, with relatives working there and able to buy the broken biscuits, large bags of Farley’s were the norm in our house. As far as I am aware the recipes ...

Well it`s been 6 months since my little girl was born and where has the time got to. I never believed people when they said make the most of it because, it doesn`t last long, but it is true they are not that cute little buddle of joy forever. Not that she is going to stop being cute ( especially if she grows up looking like her mum HE HE ), but she will be a big bundle of joy instead.
So as she is growing nicely, so is her appetite. We decided to ... ...boy she really took to them like a duck takes to water, she couldn`t get enough. She has only had the original flavour up till now but they do other various flavours.
**** SO WHAT ARE THESE ****
These are basically biscuits for babies with all the minerals and vitamins, thrown in to help baby with growth and healthy development.
They are designed for two uses:
1) Can be used for a weaning food for the younger baby
2) Or used as a finger food ...

...cheese.
A packet of farleys costs in the region of £1.75 and if your baby is anything like mine with a healthy appetite this could work out quite expensive as there are probably only about 5-6 servings in each box. Another favourite of my son's are the rusks. These are available in original, sugar-free, apple and banana flavour. They are versatile as they can be eaten as they are, or mixed into a puree with freshly boiled water, or milk. The breakfast ... ...creamy and sweet, especially when mixed with breast milk. The puddings are also very good, especially banana custard which my son loves. All meals are nutritious and contain all baby's daily dietry requirements.
I have tried a few baby foods including heinz, but have found the ready made heinz baby foods taste a bit metallic, but the farley's ones seem to appeal more to my sons tastebuds. As I mentioned before, the only disadvantage is the cost. ...

...years old and I love Farleys Rusks. I often take a wee notion for a rusk and i just bout a pack of 12 the other day in the chemist. I got the original ones, but there is choice of reduced sugar ones and if I am not mistaken a few years ago there was a banana flavour one...is this right readers?, maybe I am dreaming about this. Well if i am then this would be a great flavour for them so they can turn the milk banana flavoured!
Sometimes at night ... ...comforting than eating two ruusks with heated milk, it warms you right up and makes you have a nice night sleep. The other alternative is just eating them as biscuits. For all those people watching their weight these are the best things. For those who understand the weight watchers pointing system each rusk is one point and they are quite filling. I usually feel that after 2 rusts i am really full up!
They are shape like round raised disks and are ...
