The company: The site fashion world is one part of the J D Williams group. Under that name are a big selection of online shopping sites of which, if you are signed up to one, you can shop from all of them. The company was founded in 1875 and their main office is located in Manchester. All together there are 20 different companies under this group which all have their own site where customers can purchase goods. I have used quite a few of these sites over the three year period I have been shopping with fashion world but, my main one is Fashion world.
The site: The site is pretty average for your home shopping site. It is not too cluttered on the main page and has a set of links to different departments along the top as well as any special offers flashing up in the centre of the page for you to click on. For me personally I find the colours of the site very appealing with the logo in a fuschia and in big bold letters. Just underneath the logo is a link to go to the home shopping direct page which then lists all the other sites that come under the J D Willaims group. To the right hand side of the page is a selection of links where you can view your shopping bag, go to checkout, look at your wishlist or do quick order. Once you do click on a link you are taken to that relevant page where you can then browse items in that area. Normally they start by showing you 15 items in one go but, you can then change to view 30 or 45 items per page which makes it quicker than having to keep changing pags! Also you can amend so that it shows you items by lowest priced to highest or vice versa or even best sellers or items new in.
The variety of goods: This is a slight downside for me as I find even though fashion world is geared towards the younger ages rather than midle ged or seniors, there is still some stuff that I personally think is too old for me! Also the main reason I had found this is that the clothes are also made in sizes that are bigger for the plumper people out there and also for women needing bigger bras. So in terms of sizing there is a good chance of being able to get the largers ones - however I don't find an awful lot of stuff to suit me in one seasons collection except from mainly the Joe Browns collections they do. However I tend to find that I can generally come across a couple of items that are just perfect and these are what keep me coming back to this company! Of course being a home shopping catalogue they also deal with homewares and so I use this to buy a lot of items that you need around the home that you don't necessarily plan on needing to buy but, when they break you can buy without having to pay out for in one go! For example a new lawnmower was purchased from here when ours broke - we cannot do without one of these due to the size of our lawn and so one was promtly ordered! This is wher a lot of the other sites come in useful too as they have different ones to suit different needs such as a site dedicated to pets items - having three dogs this was another one I have used occasionally to purchase goods.
Setting up an accuount: It is very easy to set up an account with them - firt of all you have to be placing an order with them at which point it will automatically take you through to register with them. You can then choose to set up an account or pay by card immediately for goods. This was whyI initially set up an account as then you can always send goods back without having to wait for a refund to your card and then just pay for the goods you keep. Once you have been accepted for an account your order will be shipped to you. You recieve notification of your account being opened by letter and your account number is detailed on this. Once you have your account number you can then register it online so that you can view everything on there.
What can you do online? Once you have registered online it is very easy to keep track of everything on there - you can see all your transactions, your payments, statements, update your details and actually make payments too. I find that being able to track my returns is a good feature as is being able to make payments online as it saves me having to ring them whcih in turns makes this aspect quicker for me.
Delivery of goods: Delivery is the normal speed for catalogues at 3-5 days. If you want next day delivery then you can pay an extra £3.95 for it and as long as you order before 12pm any weekday then it will arrive the next day if in stock - I have done this plenty of times when needing an item urgently and it has always arrived the next day.
Returns: For me the best way of doing a return is to go to the post office with it and send it back as it is completely free and then I get a return receipt. Of course you can always do it through your courier if you cannot get o a post office and he will also give you a receipt but, of course this means waiting in for them if you needed to go out. The only downside to the post office service is that if an item has come from the manufactorer themselves then it may not come in the fashion world bag. This then means you would have to get the courier to collect the return as otherwise you would have to pay for postage at the post office.
Overall opinion: I am pleased with fashion world and have never had a problem with them in the 3 years that I have been using them. I have never had a problem with deliveries or returns and the one time that an item did not show on my transactions of being returned I emailed them and they refunded the money to my account with no fuss! I had the proof of return but, still they quite simply accepted that it had been sent back and it was a lot easier for me. I like that I can keep track of everything without having to ring them and it is very quick to make payments online too with my account having my card stored so I can just clieck to use that card for payment. I would say the only downside is that there isn't as big a range for me as some catalogues offer but, really maybe this is a good thing as then I would order too much! Overall a decent enough site that is easy to use and reliable.
...I saw an advert for Fashion World telling me that their clothes went up to a size 32, I figured that this might be just the place to get some funky new kit to cover my size 22 body . The company are part of the J D Williams group, a large range of online/home shopping companies - and once you have an account with one, you can use that account to order from any of their websites - something I found pretty useful - more on that later . The site is ... ...same parent company . Although fashion world does sell menswear and home furnishings, the main feel of the site is distinctly female . In the top right of the page there are links to your wishlist, your shopping back, and checkout etc . Clicking on any category will bring up a list of subcategories - for example, clicking on womenswear will then give you a selection of choices, including lingerie, skirts, trousers, jackets etc . From there, click ...

Advantages: Great for the fuller figure, modern and trendy designs. Disadvantages: High Interest rate on their credit account and expensive to call them direct.
...am a regular customer of FASHION WORLD. Just because I am no size “twiglet” doesn’t mean I have to dress frumpy because my waistline has a handle or two. I didn’t know this catalogue existed until I entered a competition and my name was added to the database. I didn’t win the competition but I did receive a free copy and ever since then I have been hooked.
I still wear a size 12 bottom but because my tummy is far from flat, I need jeans that stretch ... ...comes, I will still use fashion World as they cater for all sizes.
Here are some questions and answers that may help you decide if this catalogue is for you. Hope it helps.

Advantages: More variety, reasonable pricing Disadvantages: Getting through to them by telephone!
for my needs.
A few years ago I came across FashionWorld, a mail order catalogue that not only caters for curvy ladies, they even cater for curvy men too.
For the ladies their sizing ranges from size 14 to size 30, of course most ranges come in all sizes, although pricing does tend to get a little more expensive for larger sizing, for example a pair of trousers are perhaps £14.99 in sizes 14-20, £16.99 in sizes 22-26 and £17.99 in sizes 28-30. And for the men they cater for upto 52” chest and of course the pricing plan will be similar. Some of their range is also available in petite, for people 5' 2" and under.
They cater for all tastes which I think is fantastic as there are some people around that tend to like a certain style, perhaps a little old fashioned for my taste, but then again they also cater for myself whether I ...
Advantages: Good size range Disadvantages: Captive audience re sizes so maybe dont need to address customer service issues?
I have been a customer for many years, Simply Be and FashionWorld however there are two major problems that really make me cross and so I have cut back drastically on my shopping with JD Wiliams Group.
This company does have a huge range or ladies clothing, footwear and mens clothing with some homeware and specialist sites and are well known for the large size ranges they offer, especially to women. The quilty is high street average, with a few specialist ranges and branded sports wear.
You can pay in full or have an account but you are charged a montly "service charge" not an interest payment as they dont seem to lower it when interest goes down-but I guess thats the price you pay for credit.
The two sticking points for me are:-
The first thing, is the unbelieveable about of mail stuffers, catalogues and leaflets they send ...
Advantages: bigger, better, cheap and gorgeous! Disadvantages: none!
I was just out shopping for some new clothes and i was in the new HUGE newlook in liverpool and was amazed by how much it had to offer. There was everything and a lot of things were more tasteful which newlook doesnt always offer. There was a whole section for underwear in a cute little boutique-esque booth, a section for dresses and 'night on the town' wear, a section for shoes etc. There was also a floor for menswear which was very impressive and a cheaper version of topman!! All the prices are really affordable and all sizes were out. It also looked really glam and up to date, the changing room was grogeous, in a circular room with gold and red decor. I highly recommend giving newlook a second chance as it has more than stepped up to the fashion and retail world to what it used to be, a small chain of mainly young teenagers and kids ...
