Fazer

Advantages: Great
Disadvantages: Seat only good for an hours riding.

...Inspiring and good natured the Fazer can cruise along happily at most speeds with descent mid range power allowing the more sedate rider to enjoy good pull from the lower end of the revs but the old Thundercat 600 4 cylinder still offers a fairly quick motor above 7k on the analogue dials for the quicker riders. Other characteristics of the motor are reasonable levels of viabration even at high revs and seemingly bomb proof mechanics. (So Far!) The ...
...knotchy change in the lower gears, minly with 1st and 2nd around the neutral gear I guess. Apparently thats normal for the box though and doesn't cause any major problems other that making people jump at the lights as it clunks into gear. The riding position is fairly upright and offers good comfort for up to 2 hours on the road if your going distance but stiff knees a sore seat can be expected beyond that. Brakes are exceptional for a reletively ...

Great 1st Road Bike for early Mid-Life Crisis

Advantages: Performance, Cost
Disadvantages: Quality of finish disappointing, Falling Off

...of my instructor that the Fazer would suit me best, and after a quick test ride I was sold. Now, if you are reading this while doing or thing of doing your DAS training and in a similar predicament I cannot begin to explain how more responsive a middleweight 4 cylinder bike is compared to any car costing less that 60k or how smooth the engine feels compared to the twin cylinder 500cc bikes that most instructors use, you'll just have to wait and ...
...of the finish and the Fazer is no exception, infrequent cleaning especially in winter will result in a very shabby bike in no time. The forks, exhaust down-pipes and engine especially benefit from special attention. The paint finish is not bad, but will scratch quite easily if you are not careful with keys, luggage or zips on clothing. As a first big bike its a winner, I am looking to change it for something else now, not because I don't like it, ...

Its Good To Be Back - to Biking

Advantages: Good performance/handling
Disadvantages: Durability of paintword

...for me (6' 2). The Fazer kept coming out top of the bike mags Hooligan 600 group tests, and when I found I could get one for just £500 more than a GPZ500 that was it, Bike ordered! Getting back aboard was no problem, just like falling off a log. Because the bike was new I had to run it in which probably helped. By the time it had been run in I was ready for the extra power. Things certainly have moved on in 10 years! The engine may not be quite ...
...but it has plenty more power. The handling is better than I'll push it to need to be. I'm getting about 55 mpg which is also well up on the v4 and the c*r. Ride position is very comfortable, this not being a "sports" bike. There is a bit of wind buffetting at high speeds, but I'm tall and I guess a double-bubble screen would cure that. There is now a clock and low fuel light and (wow) space under the seat to stow a set of waterproofs. Looks - well ...

A bike for everyone

Advantages: Versatile, friendly but not boring
Disadvantages: Suspension!

....or at least it seems that way, the number you see on the road, and with good reason. The bike is comfortable for long luggage- laden runs - around Britain or intercontinental, it'll do anything without batting an eyelid - and it's reliable. I bought mine primarily as a fun bike (but with the ability to do the above aswell) I've yet to find it's limit although I've had some good lean angles on it and found it very confidence inspiring, and predictable ...
...I run mine on Pirelli Dragons rather than standard Bridgestones because I prefer them - and the tyre choice is reassuringly large. Finish is a bug-bear for alot of people, but my 3yr old is fine - almost showroom condition - and she's seen ample rain, mud and salt. My only complaint is the rear suspension - it's underdamped so the return speed is too high. On Britains roads this makes for an airborne rider if you weigh under 11 stone! Other things ...

fazer 600

Advantages: superb handling. decent riding position.
Disadvantages: corrosion

bought a fazer 600 as a first bike almost five year ago. Have since ridden almost 40,000 miles in all weathers inc. a trip to the Isle of Man TT races in 2003. This machine is an ideal first bike, excellent in cornering, good brakes and can be forgiving when slight mistakes are made. it's handling makes it superb on all roads including filtering through heavy traffic in town. it is also quite comfortable cruising along the motorway, with a good ...
...As with any bike it needs regular servicing the main points being the chain and brakes, which if not looked after will wear quite quickly. yamahas are prone to corrosion and after five years of punishment I have had to replace the down pipes of the exhaust and the front brake calipers. Therefore I recommend regular cleaning and polishing and a garage would be preferred. This is a good fun machine to have and although I would maybe like something ...

Great confidence inspiring rubber you can trust

Advantages: Look ok, not to expensive, good feel and turning.
Disadvantages: Might not be great for really fast riders.

First off I know how much stick Michelin have had over their performance the MotoGP! I am glad to report that I have not had such poor results from my Michelin Pilot Road tyres fitted to my trusty Yamaha FZS600 Fazer. I had these rubber boots fitted in replacement for the recommended Bridgestones that the bike was fitted with from new. I didn't really like the feel of the earlier tyres with the turn in quite sharp and at lean I didn't feel quite at ease on them. So I asked around and was told that the Michelin's should suit the way I ride with a nice gently turn into the corners and good even grip across the profile no matter what sort of angle. I have to say I haven't been dissapointed with them so far. So far I have covered about 2,000 miles on a set of these rubbers and they show only the slightest signs of wear on the rear as ...
