Living in a box room, in a flat full of Sporty boys at University has its downsides. The smells for instance - the toilets stink and they leave their dirty, muddy washing everywhere (apparently they have no idea how to work a washing machine!) So in this situation my saviour comes in the form of a small blue spray bottle.
WHAT IS FEBREZE? Procter and Gamble, the makers of Febreze, date back to 1837. The men behind the name - William Procter and James Gamble, started off back in 1837 making soap and candles and have come a long way since, making a big name for themselves with well known brands such as Pampers, Ariel, Always and Pringles. P&G describe Febreze (brought out in 1999) as a 'fabric refresher', for use when you want that little bit more freshness in your home. It can be used on rugs, clothing, bedding, curtains, sofa's, chairs and in the car to give the fabric a new lease of life and a fresh scent.
HOW DOES IT WORK? Well, in Procter and Gambles' words 'Febreze penetrates deep into the fibres and dissolves the odour as the fabric dries'. So it's not just a cover up perfume - it actually does rid the fabric of the smell instead of just masking it. Clever.
One the ingredients that used to be used in Febreze was Zinc - which according to rumours was a cause of death in some birds, cats and dogs but since the formula has been improved. It now consists of water and modified starch derived from corn (used to tackle a wide range of odours) so whatever you hear, it is safe to use around pets and on pet beds and furniture but they advise not to spray directly around pets.
The application of Febreze is simple - one quick spray (or more if you feel the fabric needs it) from 30cms away and just leave it to dry. There are no worries of stains as the solution is clear and soaks into the fabric almost instantly. And voila - nice fresh fabric with a gorgeous smell. About the smell… the 'original' Febreze has a sort of floral smell - quite tangy. I love it and will use any excuse to spray it. In my old job as a housekeeper in a small hotel I use to use it a lot - I think I went through a litre bottle a week! The boss wasn't very happy but the guests were - they had lovely smelling rooms!
There are many other versions of Febreze each with their own smell e.g. mint, citrus, blossom, meadows, summer, spring and there are others meant for specific purposes: Allergen Reducer - which reduces up to 75% of allergens from cats, dogs and dust mites that can become airborne from fabrics Antimicrobial - which eliminates 99.9% of odour-causing bacteria on fabrics. Auto - designed for use on the fabric surfaces of the car interior.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? The spray I have in front of me is a 500ml 'Classic' blue bottle. Everything is a shade of blue including the label and text on the label. Febreze is also available in a 1 Litre refill but I find the 500ml size is the best for me as it is easy to carry and store away because of its small size - and it still lasts a long time. The handle is ribbed making it easier to grip and the nozzle can be turned on and off to stop spillage in storage or transit.
WHY USE FEBREZE? With just a quick squirt you can freshen up those smelly old trainers, that smoky top from that last night out that you forgot to wash and need to wear again or the smelly dog basket in the corner. Or use can even use a quick squirt before friends come over for a nice smell to greet them as they arrive.
MY EXPERIENCES WITH FEBREZE As I've said already above, I used this product regularly at work which is the reason I got hooked to the smell and had to buy some for myself for university. I bought my 500ml bottle for £1.99 in Savers which I consider to be very good value. I've been using it for over 2 months now on a variety of objects such as my trainers, bath and hand towels, and my smoky clothes from the pub the night before. The results from one or two sprays on the above are all good and the fresh smell lasts for a good day or two before it starts to fade.
I would recommend Febreze to everyone, if not for its odour masking abilities then just for the smell! A cheap, quick and easy way to get rid of unwanted smells.
That's all folks!

...cost around £3.29). You use Febreeze by spraying it over the fabric you want to remove the smell from, keeping the spray several inches from the fabric, until the surface is damp. The Febreeze then soaks into the fabric, and is supposed to clean away any lingering smell as it dries, leaving a dry and fresh smelling surface behind. Now, while nothing specifically recommends this spray for smelly carpets - it is generally used on clothes, stinky shoes ... ...is actually quite impressive, as Febreeze is not intending for such industrial strength usage, yet it still worked. The smell from Febreeze is surprisingly pleasant as well, I must say. When I first used it, I rather expected a heavy, chemically type scent like you often get from air fresheners, but it is actually a much lighter smell and extremely fresh and clean. I suppose the nearest you could get to describing the smell would be if you could ...

Advantages: pioneer in this new field of fabric freshner technology, it works! Disadvantages: It is no substitute for cleaning, price?
In today’s modern world and busy lifestyles there are a vast range of convenience products to make life easier and Febreze is just one such item. It claims to safely remove odours from various fabrics, upholstery and surroundings. I first came across this product almost 2 years and during that time have been able to thoroughly test, establish its efficiency, value for money factor for the consumer and hopefully form an opinion on the product ... ...launch back in 1998, I like many other consumers was intrigued by its claims that it can remove lingering odours from cooking, smoke, pets, or musty smells from clothes, sofas, carpet and so on. I was curious whether this new product would actually work? In a short answer, yes it works! I was curious about what it contains, how it acts and had many other questions. As one can imagine since the last 2 years there are other products on the market that ...

Advantages: Banishes unpopular household smells Disadvantages: It smells overpowering.
My bottle of Febreze is 500ml of odour neutraliser. So if your kitchen’s nearer to your living room than you might like, or if you love your dog/cat/lizard but can’t stand the stink they trail around the house, then Febreze is for you. I’ve seen the 500ml bottle retail from between 99p to £2.79 so shop around and don’t ever buy anything other than fags and the paper from Dillons the extortionate newsagent. On the back of the ... ...actual written instructions, so don’t use Febreze on silk, suede or leather but definitely use on checked rugs, ladies blouses, curtains, car seats and old fashioned 3 seater sofas. Also, keep out of the reach of children- where Febreze wil metamorophose into a square on a high shelf- spray 30cm away from the fabric, and it turns out that the pic of a tap under a big eye means 'If it gets in your eyes, wash with cold water'. Duuh...

Advantages: less expensive than other less effective methods, very effective, price is reasonable Disadvantages: price can vary widely, some people may ot approve of its manufacturer
~~~~Why I bought this~~~~ I am a big advocate of trying to discover what is causing the odour and cleaning it or getting rid of it to solve the problem. This is not always practical, or even possible in some cases. My first experience with Febreze came when we moved into rented accommodation. We were not allowed to paint, and the bedrooms and lounge had been freshly wallpapered anyway. Unfortunately, someone who lived there previously had smoked ... ...the still nice to look at carpets causing that familiar smoke odour. I put Neutradol on the carpet to no avail. We then shampooed several times and while the water came up less pitch black each time, it was obvious there was no WAY we were going to get all of the smell and its cause out. Friends and neighbours commiserated over our plight, swearing only a new carpet would do. This the landlord would not do. It was then that I saw an advertisement ...
Advantages: works well, effective, different varieties available Disadvantages: expensive, doesn't always leave things smelling as clean as I'd like
We moved house in June and it is only in the past couple of months that I have started unpacking the bags of non-essential things. These included several bin bags full of my cuddly toy collection, particularly my TY beanies. In total, I have around 375 TY products and they are valuable to me, in both monetary and sentimental value.
As I unpacked one bag, I was greeted by a horribly familiar whiff of cat pee! On further examination, I discovered ... ...are the little bears and other animals that look quite antique in their designs – but that didn’t mean I wanted them to smell like they’d been living up in a mouldy loft for ten years! Of course, the usual solution to finding toys that have been urinated on in this way would be to bung them in the washing machine. This wasn’t really an option with these though, as the water would irreparably damage the tags and as any collector ...
Advantages: Works, smells great, cheap Disadvantages: None from me
As I am quite tight I refuse to pay the high price for Febreeze fabric freshener when personally I find the Tesco?s own brand to be just as good but when I spotted this one on offer I thought I would give it a good as it was a new product.
~~THE BOTTLE~~
The bottle is a chunky white rectangle at the bottom with a slim neck and at the top it has a white trigger spray with a blue nozzle for stopping it being sprayed. The front of the bottle has a label on which has the product name, the brand logo and a picture of a woman jumping in the ait with yellow butterflies around her. On the back of the bottle there is also a label with the directions for use, warning and ingredients.
~~USE~~
I use this on a variety of different things in the house, the main one being the curtains. I closer the curtains and then spray this all over ...
I think this is a nightmare!!! That's the third time poor Erin (my 11 year old daughter) has been up during the night to be sick. The first two times she made it to the bathroom but the third time, having a cabin bed, by the time she had mastered the steps down to the floor the sickness had erupted - all over her bed covers, the steps to her bed and all over the carpet. I stripped the bed in my zombie like state, changed her for the third time, scrubbed the carpet (or so I thought) before falling back into bed. Next morning I went into Erin's room to open the curtains only to be met by the terrible smell of sickness and stains all over the carpet yuk!!.......
Down on my hands and knees I scrubbed the stains with disinfectant until they were all gone but the smell was still lingering so I decided to go to Tesco to buy some Febreeze ...
