Advantages Advantages Characterisation, in-depth plot, no prior knowledge required (rare).

Disadvantages Disadvantages A little plodding in places.

Feet of Clay is the nineteenth Discworld novel. Set on a flat world populated by Wizards, Dwarves, Trolls and Golems it is a place were anything can happen and often does. However, what makes this and every other Discworld novel different is that this world strangely mirrors our own. Royalty and the aristocracy are pompous; politicians self-serving and policeman necessary but loathed. Indeed the Worlds major city Ankh Morpork seems not dissimilar from London or New York. This novel is the third in what many consider “The Watch Series” of books as it centres on Ankh Morpork’s police force known ... more

Sometimes when writing a review you feel that you are really wasting your time because there isn't an audience for it. That is how I feel in writing this one. Why? Well, as I see it, if you are a fan of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series(of which this is one) then you will either have read this, or have it on your reading list and there is nothing I or anyone else could say to dissuade you from keeping it there. If you are not a fan, then you'll have no intention of reading it and if its the first time you have heard of Pratchett or the Discworld series then you'll want to start reading ... more

Advantages Advantages hilarious, great characters, very clever

Disadvantages Disadvantages a bit of a slow starter

Being ill is always a good excuse to get some reading done – well, in-between dealing with the kids and the minimum essential housework, of course! Having a sore throat, bunged-up nose and a headache, not to mention the dizzy spells (Oh d*mn, I just did!) – well, how about a good book to cure it all? Well, maybe not cure it, but it does help cheer me up. So onto another triumph of clever word play by the storytelling genius that is Terry Pratchett. This is the third Pratchett book I have read - ‘Feet Of Clay’ – a murder mystery whodunit, featuring the Watch ... more

Advantages Advantages Plenty to get your teeth into a serious comedy

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not as funny as some of his work

Having enjoyed the Discworld series for many years i will admit that i have a certain bias in favour of Terry Pratchetts books. Having said that Feet of Clay is a really good read and certainly one of the better books in the sequence involving the watch. It is set on the discworld, a flat disc that travels through space on the backs of four elephants standing on top of a turtle. The discworld has politics, religion, magic and all the standard fantasy fair. It also has equal rights movements for trolls, dwarfs and the undead. In a way the discworld is a warped mirror of this world and Pratchett ... more

Advantages Advantages Multiple levels and lighthearted humour

Disadvantages Disadvantages Works best with knowledge of previous books

This is another of Terry's Watch books, in it we see how the new watch is growing and moderninsing. All the old favourite from Sam Vine, Captain Carrot through to nobby and Angua return and are fleshed out that little bit more with Terry's unique descriptive skills. The story centres on a series of murders which the watch are investigateing and as such the plot is relatively compelling. You can read it as a light hearted book and not worry aboutthe lot or you can read it as a murder mystry and try to work out who did it, why and where. This book also introduces Golems to the reader, an ... more
