For this review I decided that I should go to the experts to get their opinion of the product. Now I have to admit that Douglas Adams didn’t foresee one problem with his universal translation machine… the fact that trying to stuff a Babel fish into a cats ear so it can understand you is a real problem because all they want to do is try and eat the fish while you are attempting to stick it in place. Though I guess that this is a problem that I should have thought of beforehand as Willow did manage to get one of the fish first.

Now then first off I shall introduce you to Willow and Tabitha, my two cats. How are you today girls?

Meeoww, meow, purr purr……

Ah now look at that I have forgotten my own Babel fish, give me a second or two.

(imagine sounds of fish being stuck in ear)

Now then girls what would you like to tell me about Felix Fish Selection in Jelly Pouch?

Mmmmm yes please I would like some please
Me too I like the jelly that is round the meat a lot
You do Tabby? Well I like the fishy bits… fishies are really
nice… mmmm

I’m hungry can I have some now?
Oh yes please daddy food food food…. Then some sleep on your lap if I can.

Hmmm ok I can see that this idea isn’t going to work very well at all so I will try and give my impression of what Willow and Tabitha think.

The one thing that first should be mentioned is that my two cats are incredibly fussy, pretty much like most cats it seems. Cats in general like to try and assert their authority over you and if they don’t like the food they are given they will not eat it, no matter how hungry they may be.
I have tried Willow and Tabitha on other foods, mainly it has to be said because Felix is quite expensive compared to the stores own brands or brands you can get from shops such as Aldi or Lidl, and they really don’t like it/them.
If they were human you could quite easily say that they stick their noses in the air if they are given anything else to eat. They miaow like mad as you are getting the food out but then just sniff and walk away once it is there.
Felix on the other hand is a completely different thing.
Generally speaking I get the large packs of fish in jelly cans. Again this is because of the cost, Felix itself is pricey but when you compare the tins to the pouches then it is even more costly.

*as of July 20th 2012 the difference in price is £1.43 per KG for tins, £2.66 per KG for pouches*

Still though the cost is high it is still better than buying something that your cats don’t like as, obviously, that is then just a complete waste of money.
I don’t bother these days and always get Felix. Like I said most of the time it is in cans but whenever the pouches are on offer I will always go for them first. The reasons for this are that:-

Firstly Tabitha really seems to like the jelly that surrounds the fish meat, she always eats that first for some reason.
Secondly because it makes feeding the two of them very easy as you can just use a pouch for each of their trays.

In the summer it means you don’t have to have any meat left in a tin until their next feeding time, though this ‘summer’ it hasn’t been a problem with the heat affecting the meat in the tin.

Lastly another major reason I don’t mind paying the extra for Felix is the little picture tokens of Felix on each box of pouches. Now these can be used to get nice little Felix based gifts for a low price but more importantly you can trade in 24 tokens (a pack of pouches has 8 tokens on it) to Purina via their World of Felix website to give a donation to Cats Protection.
On receiving your tokens they will donate one can of cat food to Cats Protection, and if you love your cats how can you not want to do this to help out less fortunate felines?

My two mogs are weird - with food in jelly, one'll eat only the jelly, the other only the meat, then they swap over and polish off what the other has left, yet it's the reverse for the food in gravy. Cats = random!
