With my boyfriend having started uni earlier this year, and myself doing a part time course, we came to the realisation that a fair bit of our time would be spent copying our notes from scribbled bits of paper to the PC to keep us both better organised in our work .
Initially, we would just plonk our notes down on our cluttered desk, but this soon proved frustrating, as we'd get up to use the loo, come back, and find the kittens playing with them . Or spill drinks on them . Or have them blown off the desk by our fan . It became apparent that we needed something to hold them firmly in place - and preferably something that would not require us to keep looking up and down every few seconds, as we were both aching in the neck quite often.
We opted for the Fellowes Desktop Copy Holder, which cost us around a fiver in an office supplies store. Looking online, this seems a reasonable price, with this retailing for anything from £5 -£12 .
Essentially, it's a plastic stand in a kind of metallic grey finish, with a black clip at the top that you can secure your pages with. It has a leg at the back that keeps it propped up, and has a handy clear 'ruler' like device that can be slid up and down the page , making it useful as extra grip holding the paper, as well as for using as a bookmark, or for underlining sections of work .
Placing this on my desk enabled me to keep documents I was reading at a similar height to my monitor, making it comfortable and easy to read the information without pointless head bobbing . The clip did help hold the paper in place securely (and can easily take multiple sheets) and the clear ruler part in particular comes in useful for securing the bottom of the page if I have my fan on, stopping them from flapping about . This part is also useful for moving down the page as I read - acting as a handy bookmark and enabling me to easily find my place again . When not in use, this line guide can be moved out of the way easily .
I've found this very handy for transferring my notes - they remain firmly in place, and at a height where I can easily read them without any discomfort . The copy holder does not take up too much room on my desk, and folds flat for easy storage . Being light, it can also be moved around if needed ( as my boyfriend is a left, and I'm a righty, this happens often). Overall, at just £5, it's a great piece of kit that has made studying a little more comfortable . Recommended.
