...~~~ Overview & Appearance ~~~
The MPF920 is a fairly unremarkable floppy disk drive produced by Sony to be mounted inside your trusty computer. The drive supports 3.5" diskettes up to a maximum capacity of 1.44MB. Measuring just over 3.5" x 4.5" x 1" (approx) the main body of the unit is composed of steel, with a beige fascia at the front. There is a small slot for inserting your diskette, a button to eject the diskette and a small green LED to indicate whether the drive is being read from or written to by your computer. The rear of the unit features a small 4-pin power connector and also a second set of smaller pins for connecting the drive to your motherboard by means of the supplied (sometimes!) lead. The drive features a selection of small holes along each side so that you can screw it securely into your PC case.

Advantages: Inexpensive, good design, easy to use and fast. Disadvantages: None found yet
...Fed up with the constant changing of 1.44Mb diskettes? I know I certainly was especially when updating my Norton Anti-Virus (NAV) "Rescue Disks".
With this in mind, I was browsing through the different products they had on offer in Dixon's of Chichester, when I came across the Iomega 100Mb system. It was on offer at £69.95 with three free 100Mb disks, which seemed an extraordinarily good deal - especially as it was being offered for more money and no disks elsewhere.
After checking with the knowledgable sales assistant nearby as to how easy it was to install and use, I decided that I had nothing to lose -- and everything to gain.
After unpacking and reading the installation instructions (consise and to the point, yet remaining very clear), I proceeded to connect it up to the back of my MS Natural Pro keyboard (q.v.), into one of its...

Advantages: Good temporary storage space Disadvantages: No real need to upgrade from the zip 100
...There's little doubt that the Iomega Zip drive is now the market leader in removable storage devices, ahead of its nearest rivals the LS-120 and Sony's HiFD drives. However the Zip's 100MB of storage has started to seem a little miserly given that the demand for capacity continues to rise - driven in part by the increasing use of graphics, video and sound files on the Internet and company-wide intranets. But the new Zip 250 has leapt ahead of its rivals, offering 250MB of storage, over 50MB more than Sony's HiFD super-floppy drive.
Like its predecessor, the Zip 250 is available in a variety of flavours, both internal and external, and with a choice of interface. The most popular of these will probably turn out to be the external drive, which is currently available with either a parallel port or a SCSI connection to the PC. A USB...
