Advantages: Trackball is good for some Disadvantages: Trackball is bad for some and this one can be a little unresponsive
...On the lighter side of the mouse, Microsoft realized that it couldn't just create mice, since there were other folks out there that were into trackballs. The trackball is simply a mouse upside down really, with a ball your thumb or fingers move around, with the buttons in various places. Microsoft got cute with the trackball, and decided to give it a nice glossy surface, and make it quite ergonomic.
The index finger controls the ball, while the middle finger or the ring finger controls the wheel on the right. The wheel on the IntelliMouse TrackBall performs just like it does on the other mice. In addition to the wheel, the two buttons for clicking are now on the left side of the trackball, in which your thumb is to control. The wheel on the trackball can click as well as scroll, just like the other mice. I never really liked trackballs...

...In the past few years we have had to deal with providing an ergonomic workplace. Adding different devices to help make the computing experience more comfortable for the employee and reducing the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome when possible. This is the latest device we purchased to try to tackle this problem.
The Device
This trackball only vaguely resembles a trackball. It looks like a slightly enlarged mouse with a trackball in the middle of it. It is shaped to fit the contour of the hand with two buttons and a scroll wheel on the left and two additional buttons on the right. The device can be connected by either a USB or PS/2 cable. The trackball has a little tension to it so that you have to actually push it out from the hole in the bottom. This is a personal plus for me as I have had bad experiences with other trackballs...

Advantages: Helps stave off R.S.I. Disadvantages: Larger than a normal mouse
...I started to use a trackball, as a precaution against developing R.S.I. I had read that using a mouse is a contributory factor for R.S.I.
Movement
In order to move the pointer, you place a finger on the ball and then move the ball around. The ball is a pretty shade of blue and the rest of the trackball is silver. It is easy to keep clean and has been working perfectly for some months.
U.S.B.
The mouse has a U.S.B. connection, so make sure you have enough U.S.B. ports. Just plug it in and the software will start to load.
Getting used to it
At first, the trackball was tricky, but now I have got used to it and think that it does help. Also, it stops other family members from wanting to use my computer!!!
Why use a trackballTrackballs can help if you have arthritic hands or do not have much space for a mouse mat.

This really does have to be the best of Logitechs cordless series.
For those of you that are unaware of what a trackball is, imagine an upsidedown mouse. So instead of moving the mouse around the table you just move the ball.
