I bought the Fender '75 Jazz Bass to upgrade from the basic Yahama BB404 I bought when I started to play. I've always loved Fender Jazz basses, and this one in particular is a great size and weight, and just looks beautiful (although I haven't used the pickup guard or bridge plate shown in the photo).
Compared to my Yahama bass, the Fender is much more substantial in terms of weight and construction, and the sound is much warmer and richer.
This guitar holds it's tuning very well, after a heavy practice session it's still using very close to being in perfect tune, but I do recommend using an inline tuner to check every now and again. Tuning can also slip a little when there are big temperature variations, but this happens with all guitars to the best of my knowledge.
The neck is quite thin (a Fender Jazz feature) so it's nice ...
Advantages: Lovely sounds and resonance Disadvantages: none
Fender are normally thought of for their electric guitars such as the Strat and Telecaster but they also make Basses.
The PrecisionBass is a single coil Pick up guitar which you just plug and play.
It has a tone control and Volume obviously but that is it. No switches to select pick ups, no knobs and buttons to select the sound.
Saying that, this guitar has a lovely sound to it for its price.
Its the bottom model of the greeat fender range of basses.
You can get them in 3 formats to.
They are made in 3 different countries and the sound varies accordingly.
The Korean model is the basic model. Its made by Squire for fender and does not have the build quality or sound quality of the better guitars but for £129-£189 you get a nice looking guitar.
Next you move on to Mexico. There is very little difference between these ...
Advantages: Amazing value for money! Disadvantages: None, unless you want a guitar with a tremolo arm.
the pickups individually. Positions 2 and 4 give combinations of the "bridge and middle" / "neck and middle" pickups in humbucking configuration. This allows you to go from standard Telecaster tones to meaty humbucking tones at a flick of the switch.
Disadvantages are few - there is no tremolo arm, but if you were looking for a guitar with a tremolo, you would not usually consider a Telecaster. Thirty or forty years ago it was common to fit a Bigsby arm to a Telecaster in Nashville, and you can still buy a suitable Bigsby today!
When I was young, a lot of the older players used to say "If you can only afford one good guitar, buy a Telecaster". I actually preferred Gibsons, and my first five electric guitars were Gibsons. But now I have one of these, I would say "If you can only afford one good guitar, buy a Nashville Telecaster ...
