I bought my cherry red 2005 Nashville Tele from a New Jersey guitar dealer because it looked like a bargain - second hand, but new condition. It cost $389. After paying for postage and import duty, it cost me about £340 overall.

This is the best value for money guitar I have ever bought!

The finish is superb quality, and it looks every inch as good as any of the USA models. Telecaster purists may not like the individual bridge segments for each string, but they work better than the old style bridge in my opinion, and the machine heads work well with a good feel.

Playability is superb - the intonation is excellent. The guitar is the best playing Telecaster I have ever encountered, with a fast action and good string spacing.

Tonal variation is extremely wide. There is a 5 position switch fitted. Positions 1, 3, and 5 select the pickups individually. Positions 2 and 4 give combinations of the "bridge and middle" / "neck and middle" pickups in humbucking configuration. This allows you to go from standard Telecaster tones to meaty humbucking tones at a flick of the switch.

Disadvantages are few - there is no tremolo arm, but if you were looking for a guitar with a tremolo, you would not usually consider a Telecaster. Thirty or forty years ago it was common to fit a Bigsby arm to a Telecaster in Nashville, and you can still buy a suitable Bigsby today!

When I was young, a lot of the older players used to say "If you can only afford one good guitar, buy a Telecaster". I actually preferred Gibsons, and my first five electric guitars were Gibsons. But now I have one of these, I would say "If you can only afford one good guitar, buy a Nashville Telecaster".

Overall, an excellent buy - the most versatile electric guitar I have ever owned. My USA Strat stays in the wardrobe now, and would be sold if it were not a family heirloom.

To respond to the comment about how much money I have - I was loaned a Gibson for learning purposes, and decided not to compromise when I bought my first electric. I also worked in music shops, so I picked up a few bargains!
