Living in a flat with room for a window ledge and in dire need of fresh herbs - Quite a few of us. The conundrum is how to set up one without paying a penny. First bit is family anf friends - those cuttings from overgrown herb patches which are overgrowing - finding the window box by salvaging and re-using anything that remotely looks like one. Soil - Well there's loads of that about. Now come cuttings - I ain't winning on this but any ideas would be appreciated. Bulbs - Garlic,Onion,Fennel - plonk in a pint glass with with and growth stimulant and replant in earth once you see the roots otherwise the big rotting begins. Lots of care and reomoval of dead foliage - looks prettier and ensures the nutrients are not wasted. Any more ideas will help myself and us all !!
