I have a great passion for these Cars and especially the Ferrari F40, as well as the man who made and engineered them Enzo Ferrrari. In 1994 I was delivering post in my van to Readmans and I heard an Engine purring and turned round, and to my amazement there was an F-Reg Ferrari F40 sitting there with it's Engine running. It looked superb so I got out of my van and walked over to it. The guy who owned it was the owner of the Firm and he let me sit in it. Even just to see one of these was a dream come true never mind sitting in one.
First produced in 1987. The Engine was a 32 valve 3.0 litre (2936cc)which was longitudinal mid-mounted V8. The Cylinder block was made of light alloy as was the Cyclinder head. They are 4 valves per Cylinder and twin overhead Camshaft per Cylinder bank. To make this Car as powerfull as it is they were 2 Turbo's added. Two IHI Turbo's with heat exchanger and Weber-Marelli electronic injection. This car pushes out 478 bhp at 7000 rpm and acheives a maximum speed of 202 mph and a 0-60 time in 3.7 seconds. The transmision was a five speed gearbox and reverse, which used a dry plate twin clutch and a ZF limited-slip differential.
This Car is only light at 1100kg which is quite unbelievable when you look at the size of the Car. But the secrets in its materials, they are tubular Steel and various Composites like Carbon etc. The front and rear Suspension are both independant and have double wish bones, coil springs, co-axial koni dampers and anti roll bars. The steering is by Rack and Pinion. The brakes are vented racing discs and make the Car stop fast, if you have such power and speed like the F40 you need to be able to stop well. The tyres on this Car are huge with the front tyres being bigger than the front. The front tyres are 245-40/ZR-17 and the back ones are 335-35/ZR-17, the back tyres being bigger to grip to the road as well as the superb handling acheives. The Exhaust is Stainless Steel and there are 3 pipes coming out of the back of the Car all next to each other in the middle. A large spoiler is fitted to the rear and F40 is so elgantly enbossed into the paintwork. The fuel tank is a massive 120 litre one so filling it up will be quite costly, but if you can afford one of these I don't think filling it up will bother you. The lenth of the Car is 4430mm, width is 1980mm, height is 1130mm and the wheelbase is 2450mm.
Inside the F40 you would expect to see all the latest gadgets and an array of leather and luxury. No this Car is a pure Racing Car, inside you will find 2 Red bucket seats, a mono steering wheel with no airbag, and quite a cramped seating position for both the driver and passenger. The gearstick is Alloy and is in a H-Selector that is also Alloy. The seat belts are the ones that are commonly used in the United States, the ones that wrap round you when you get in and self adjust. The back window has 10 slat like ventilations in it.
Not forgetting this Car is a Dream Car, it is not very practical for eveyday use. People who are lucky enough to own one would probably garage it through the week and use it at the weekend. The cost of these Cars is anyhing from £145,000 upto easily £500,000. The Insurance Costs for this Car would probably cost about £2000-£5000, not forgetting filling that huge tank and Service and Parts costs. I
If you have won the Lottery or are extremeley wealthy then I would suggest trying to find one of these pieces of Sports Car history and it would be a good investment. For all the rest of us we can dream! There is now a Ferrari F50 and even an F60 that will be shown at the Paris 2002 motor show. But for me there will only be one F series Ferrari and that is the ultra sexy Ferrari F40.
Advantages: explosive performance, great looks, heritage Disadvantages: running costs will be on the high side
I won a trip in an F40 round Knockhill circuit. This was a car I had worshipped from afar since it's launch in 1987 when I was a spotty school boy, clutching a copy of Autocar with a picture of the F40 on the cover. As you can imagine this was something of a dream come true for me. the experince didn't disapoint
I was expecting it to be fast, after all with a midmounted twin turbo 3 litre V8 and a kerb weight of only 1100 lb which is lighter than ... ...around. I was however unprepared for quite how fast. Under full throttle acceleration out of the pits I got that feeling in the pit of my stomach that you get from the extreme g forces on fairground rides and the like, It just seemed to stick to the track and go where it was pointed, with very little body roll or drama. The statisitics will tell you that is goes onto 202.5 mph the first production car to do so, and awesome for 1987. We only got up ...

...describe the quality of the Ferrari F40. It was the last road car Enzo Ferrari ever saw and, fittingly, it remains the fastest ever built by his factory. With a top speed of 201mph it is truly a “supercar ”. Twin Behr intercoolers dominate the engine bay. They run through two Japanese IHI turbos to provide the most exciting experience of any supercar built.
There is so much power that you have to learn to have super control over your right foot. ... ...throttle down by, say, an inch when you’re already doing 60mph, not much happens. But if you press the accelerator down by an inch in an F40 that’s dawdling along at 60, in a blink of a bats eye, you’re doing well over 100mph and that’s a worry if you happen to be cornering at the time.
If you can afford almost half a million pounds, it is definitely the car to own. ...

Advantages: Looks good Disadvantages: don't sell any more
The Ferrari F40 is probably the best looking Ferrari road car around... The F40 looks wonderful, it just looks so cool and it lloks best scarlet red, but I don't mind it when its silver, or yellow.
The Ferrari F40's top speed is around 201.3 mph. It has a V8 dual turbo engine... real horse power...
If I was rich and I could drive I would definetly get this beautiful Ferrari F40, thats if they still sell any... doubt it though...
The F40 looks ...

...the pleasure of driving a ferrari f40 a couple of years ago and loved the experience. so much so i have been back on several ocassions just to play in it again.
as soon as you slip into the passenger seat you are amazed by the gadgetry on offer and one quyick tweak of the ignition will leave you filling your pants. the roar that comes from the 32 valve, 3 litre engine would delight even the most bitter of car hating hippies.
i was lucky enough ... ...test its full capabilities. 0-60 passes in a flash and as u step up the gears the top end pull drags u back into ur seat.
from the outside the car looks like sex on wheels, blending cool italian style with refined continental lines making this the perfect car for the guy or girl (laughs) who wants to be noticed on the street.
its the dogs bollox, all i need to do now is win the lottery so i can afford to buy my own, pay for the servicing and put ...

Advantages: sleek, stylish, powerful Disadvantages: at arounwith the price of fuel, could you run it
Time and time again Ferrari bring out one excellent car after another, with the F355, F40, F50 to name but few, then they brought out the beast of a car that is the 360 Modena. Were do I start some would say the E-type Jags is the best looking car ever made, others the Lambo Diablo, but for me there is an obvious winner. The Italian designer really out did themselves with this, sleek, stylish, powerful are only a few words that spring to mind. This is Ferrari back to form, a masterpiece of enginnering. ...
Advantages: Ferrari badge, classic Disadvantages: Ferrari Badge
Released on the world in 1984 to challenge lamboghinis countach the ferrari testarossa (red-head in Italian) is a mid-engined, rear wheel drive, 390bhp piece of classic pininfarina design. Its handling as you would expect from any ferrari is of the highest standard.
It sat in the ferrari range as the smaller brother to the awesome F40 and in 1985 Ferrari built over 800 of them, mass production by their standards yet the waiting list just got bigger. In the late 80's such was the demand, that testarossa's were changing hands for around £250,000, around treble there original price tag. Today you can expect to pay around £25000 to £45000 depending on age and condition, although you mite want to consider that parts are gonna be a little bit pricey these days. But for your money you do get a car with a top speed of 181mph and 0 ...
