Diwali 21/10/06 - A Celebration Of Good Over Evil

Advantages: Time for some more presents…
Disadvantages: None that I can think of!

...(if not the most important) festivals in the Hindu religion. It is celebrated passionately in India and by Indians outside of India the world over. It is commonly known as the "festival of lights" and marks the end of ignorance and beginning of enlightenment. The lights signify driving away the darkness in our lives and welcoming the light. It is also considered as the Hindu New Year.

Diwali (also commonly known as Deepavali) ...
...days it falls on each year as they're slightly different depending on the Indian calendar months, but usually Diwali falls around late October/early November.

The meaning of Deepawali (a Sanskrit word) - Deepa means light and Avali means a row - a row of lights.

Glastonbury - more than just a grunge fest.

Advantages: Great sounds, great food, great times
Disadvantages: finding a campsite

I have been to Glastonbury twice now, and have loved every second of it. My only other festival experience is the Woodford Folk Festival in Australia, which is great, but mini by comparison. The key to Glastonbury is preparation and planning. You need to arrive early. If you can't get there by Thursday morning, the next best thing is to find mates going up early who can put your tent up for you. The days before the festival are just as good as the ...
...just so stoked to be there. There is so much going on, and it's a good way to get to know the place, and chill out before the festival starts. Read the guide and magazine that you are given when you arrive and work out what you want to see. It's better to plan to see 2 or 3 big acts a day and perhaps miss a few bands, than run around like a chook with its head cut off trying to get from stage to stage. You'll just end up constantly fighting crowds ...

Andy's Guide To Reading Festival

Advantages: It's always a good laugh
Disadvantages: Not everyone is there for a good time, Be careful with your valuables

It's V festival this weekend and Reading and Leeds the weekend after so I thought I'd bring this to the fore for anyone planning a trip to either. I'll be at Reading as usual so anyone going let me know. ******************** The festival season is coming to an end with only a few weeks remaining, so I have decided to combine my 150th Op on Ciao with a guide to festival survival. I didn’t intend on making this 150 I was just going to pass it by ...
...wait till 151. For the purpose of this op, I’m going to draw on my experience from Reading Festival over the last 3 years and my preparations for the next one in 2 weeks time. Tickets ****** The first thing to do of course is decide whether you fancy just 1 day or if your going to be daring and go for the whole weekend. Me I’m a weekend type of guy. So the first thing to do is purchase your tickets, but you’ll need to do this reasonably quickly ...

Don't forget the bog roll

Advantages: Great fun, loads of music, making friends
Disadvantages: Potential risks

...the camping side and the festivals themselves in this guide. Of course, beginning with stating the obvious, before you head off excitingly don’t forget your camping gear – tent, sleeping bags, torch, etc – and make sure you have your tickets too! Obvious stuff, but it’s amazing what people can forget in the excitement of the moment! Never pitch your tent too near the portaloos – it may seem like a clever and convenient ...
...clothing too as you know festivals are notorious for becoming mud baths and at night it can get chilly if your are a “stay-up-all-nighter” like myself. You will need a torch for those late night forays to the loo and finding your tent among the 50,000 or so others and try to pitch your tent near some sort of distinctive landmark – finding another tent flying a flag or painted up is often a good idea or decorate your own tent accordingly ...

Going to a festival

Advantages: Great fun and a great atmosphere
Disadvantages: Camp sites can be rough, toilets are horrible and the festival food gives you the sh*ts

...unlike many other things at festivals they can well be at a reasonable price. Taking things into the arena: When going into the arena it is best to take only the things that you need most. If you intend to sit down and watch the bands on stage you might as well take some food and drink in with you. But if you intend to be in the moshpit for the majority of the day it is best if you take only a wallet with around about £5 in cash. Summary: · As ...
...a wristband. · If you are caught with drugs in the arena you will be kicked out until you are back to normal. · You are not aloud to take alcohol into the arena · Take high energy and light weight food. · Take only what you need into the arena. · Don’t leave valuables in the tent. · Choose your camping spot wisely. · Don’t eat festival food. · Most importantly TAKE PLENTY OF TOILET PAPER. Whilst writing this op I had a great ...

Another festival survival guide

Advantages: Great music, great atmosphere, basically a three-day party!
Disadvantages: mud, rain, alcohol poisoning, but really, who cares? you can worry about that the week after

...each. Its all common sense when you think about it, but people (including me) tend to go mad at festivals and forget- well, everything else really. You know what cliche is coming next. At the end of the day, you're there to have fun, so make sure you do. ...

Festival fun in Hertfordshire

Advantages: good family fun, local bands, stalls and activities
Disadvantages: Saturday can be a bit loud for the kiddies

I seem to randomly find really interesting local events. A few years ago my son and I came across a Conker Festival which was a ton of fun and we've attended every year since. Last year we were in the car after a quick morning in the shops and as we were driving home we noticed a huge stage set up on the moor and a big line of stalls with various bits such as food and local crafts and best of all the sign said in large letters, "free entry" ... we pulled the car over and walked over to investigate. Most of the surrounding roads are unmarked and you can park easily plus there is some parking available in the feilds. According to one of the signs we had stumbled upon a yearly weekend festival. It was the last day and there was a really good jazz group playing (would've gone again just to see them!). The grounds are usually where people ...

Leeds Festival

Advantages: Friendly, Good music.
Disadvantages: Drugs, toilets!

|:| The Festival Leeds Festival is an annual rock music festival that happens every year at the end of August, usually the last full weekend of the month. Leeds Festival and Reading Festival are collectively known as Carling weekend. They have the same bands on over the weekend but on different days. Reading Festival has been going since 1961 where the origin of the festival began as the National Jazz Festival. In later years, with a rise in popularity of rock and metal music in the early seventies the genre of the music at the festival changed gradually. The popularity of the festival increased over time and rock gods such as Ramones, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Guns 'N' Roses and many many more have played there over the time it has been running. More people wanted to go to the festival with such great acts on so in the late 90s the festival ...

The Last Of The Summer Festivals

Advantages: Amazing in everyway!
Disadvantages: Those nasty porto pottys

up suggested to be the best day of the festival. After having my Cornish pasty for breakfast we headed off to the arena to enjoy the first day of music; Goldie Looking Chain: A complete mick take of townies, GLC strolled on stage to a huge crowd and pleased all with Guns don?t kill people rappers do and some of the worst break dancing id ever seen, lol. They pleased most and got everyone singing and dancing to their last song ?Your Mums Got A Penis?. They put on a brillaint show and started the weekend in style Rating:4/10 Taking Back Sunday: This is one band I had been dieing to see and they didn?t disappoint, despite the vast majority of the audience not knowing their stuff they played an amazing song with all the best stuff from their past and present album. The band put their heart and soul into what was the biggest performance ...
