Fiat Bravo 1.6

... I have had 5 Fiats since i started driving and three of them have been Bravos. The styling is fantastic, there is nothing like the Bravo, it is in a league of its own. I commute approximately 500 miles a week so I need a decent car for me to be able to do this. It handles brilliantly, ... Read review

A fantastic Fiat

Advantages: Cheap to run, cheap to insure good looking
Disadvantages: Injectors do tend to go and depreciates quicly

...fuel consumption was shocking. Fiat pulled the 1.4 and replaced it with the much improved replacement, the 1.2. These are quicker than the 1.4 and much more refined engine.

The worse MPG i have got out of my 1.6 is about 34/35 but i usually get around 40 - 45 and i do not drive light footed.

If you like to modify your car then there isnt much you can do tuning wise, but i am led to believe that tuning companies such ...

Kit -wise there are pleny out there, Bravos are one of the very few cars i like with a kit on, personally i think skirts and alloys finish it off, nothing else is required.

If you are planning on buying one of these then ensure you have all the keys with it. Two blue keys and the important red key.

The red key is required if you ever need to reset your ECU. I personally have never needed this, but better ... more

The new Fiat Bravo 1.6 Eco

Advantages: Excellent styling, fuel economy and emissions.
Disadvantages: Narrow rear end means a small back window and reduced boot space.

...have recently purchased the new Fiat Bravo 1.6 Eco diesel. The eco referrs to the fuel effiency and emmissions that some new Fiats have. Firstly the fuel effiency is quoted by Fiat as 65 mpg on the combined urban/extraurban cycle. Although the Eco is good, I have only managed low 50's, however that is still extremely efficient. A tank of diesel so far has averaged at about 550 miles, pretty good. The real bonus of the Eco however is the low emissions. ...
...the second category which means none of the recently introduced forecourt tax and at current rates only £35 a year after that. The styling of the new Bravo is excellent, it looks good and you feel good driving it. The interior is well made and looks much better than the older style Bravo, in fact almost every aspect of the new model appears to be an improvement on the older style. The nly downside of the new styling is that the rear window is smaller ...

Fiat Nightmare

Advantages: Frisky Engine, Nice Looks
Disadvantages: Bad Build Quality, Depreciation

...not just put me off Fiat Bravos but it has put me off buying any sort of European car (except the Germans) as i have had enough of plastic dashboards and bad electrics. The only redeeming feature of this car now is really the cheap second hand value and cheap running costs (without the maintainance) ...

Very competent hatchback

Advantages: Quite nippy and smooth
Disadvantages: Rather dull and boring

I had a Fiat Bravo 1.6 for a while and it was a very competent little car. It`s not hard to see why they are so cheap though - they are fairly ugly at the front - that was apparent when they first came out. Not as ugly as the Brava though which depreciated even faster. Basically, you get a car which is nearly as good as a focus but for a lot less. I paid a few hundred for mine and it had done low miles and had a years MoT. The only difference between ...
...dashboard. When I phoned a Fiat specialist for the part, he "groaned" as if to say "that again" - and yes, this can be a problem it would appear. Not only that, but for a DIY man, these are a son of a b**** to repair/replace. No other problems have manifested themselves. It`s hard to believe this was the car of the year in 1996 or something - quite a bargain now - personally I would take the 1.4 but certainly the 1.6 offers value for money. Buy ...

Quick review of Fiat Bravo 1.6

A great little runner, has poke when you need it and gets you out of a tight spot pretty sharpish. A few things are renowned to go wrong like the electrics and the drivers airbag light constantly on which means it wont deploy properly in a crash but this is due to a fault in the electrics running to and from it, a great all round car that last a long time, I've just had to replace the clutch, the brake disks and pads and 4 new tyres but it wasn't as expensive as you think, only trouble is if you actually go to a fiat garage they will charge you through the nose as they know they have you so be warned. ...

Fiat Bravo 1.6

Advantages: Good Lookin' and Nippy
Disadvantages: Bad Reputation (somewhat understandable)

...was a P reg green fiat bravo with 73000 miles. Bargain I thought at only £1250. I was right. Bearing in mind, my last car was a 1.0L Nissan Micra, the Bravo was a joy to drive, with smooth gear changes, and good (ish) fuel consumption. With the journeys I have to drive its good, but no so good around a town centre. There were some bad vibes going around the family about my new car, mainly from my dad. 'Don't buy a Fiat son, you remember your mums ...
...have a Fiat Panda and a Fiat Uno, enough to put anyone off a Fiat. However, things change. Fiat seemed to come into their own in the late nineties, making good cars that didn't fall apart. The bad reputation of Fiat, (mainly Fix It Again Tomorrow), was somewhat true, but after this many miles you expect a few problems. At 75,000 miles the clutch slave cylinder failed. Easy repair, cost me nothing as it was under warranty, off the road for about ...

What else are you gonna buy in its class?

Advantages: great handling, cheap, good extras, nothing better in its class
Disadvantages: it's a Ford, everyone's got one

The Ford Focus is the daddy of all mid-size car handling in its price range. What else can you buy for 10-12K that drives as good as this? 0-60 in around 10 seconds and a top speed of 115 mph so the magazines say, but it's pretty responsive. It's also insurance group 6 to 8, and on these two factors nothing compares. The nearest you will get to a car this price, with this insurance group is a Fiat Bravo. I test drove several Ford Focuses and I would recommend to go for at least a 1.6 engine. From reading a number of reviews I have found that going up to a 1.8 or 2.0 litre does not make a great deal of difference in 0-60 or top speed. Apparently they are limited as you go up on engine size, so upgrading does not make significant differences. So, for the extra insurance you are going to pay, and the extra for the car itself ...
