I bought my first Fiat Coupe 20VT 6 months old in 1999. I loved it, but things were going well and I was tempted away by a second hand Ferrari 412. Unfortunately it wasn't a patch on the fiat and... more

Advantages Advantages Speed, versatility, styling, ownership experience

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Cockpit storage space

I bought my Fiat 20v Turbo Coupe secondhand 4 years ago with 50,000 miles on the clock and recently felt the desire to change because it had become ravaged by stone chippings and age. It had never let me down in 35,000 miles and fortunately the desire for change vanished every time I sat behind the wheel, turned the ignition key, and sampled the exhillaration ir provided. The memories of two non stop journeys from London to Barcelona flooded back to how I enjoyed "letting it out" on continental roads. Styling is good, interior ample for four despite its size, and the boot cannot be considered ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Questionable reliability

I bought my Broom Yellow Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo new in August 1998, so I am just coming up to 2 years of life with the car. Generally the car has lived up to my expectations, both with handling, drive-ability and the feel good factor of a sports car. However I have had some problems with reliability. First the steering pump fell off after the first 1000 miles, this cuased a roadside breakdown and a return to the dealer. They had to remove the engine to fix the problem. But as it was under warrenty there was no charge. I've also had problems with squeeking wheels/breaks and noisy Air Conditioning ... more

Advantages Advantages Very fast and stylish, reliable, 30 MPG!

Disadvantages Disadvantages High insurance, service costs £££

I brought my Coupe 20v turbo about 4 years ago and it has never let me down once. The cost of getting it through the MOT is sometimes a little frightening (recon turbo, new brake discs, cambelt) but having used an excellent specialist to perform all the work I feel as if I have a well sorted car now.... And considering I only paid about half of the price of an equivelent age/mileage: Impreza/Integra/cossie I think these costs are offset. I absoulutly love the styling: inside and out and find that it still gets its fair share of admiring glances. The engine is an absolute corker, its dosile when ... more

Advantages Advantages Great looking car, 220bhp goes like wotsit off a stick

Disadvantages Disadvantages has a fiat badge on it, insurance group 19

If you like driving you should try driving one of these. Ok, you might go through the tyres every 10,000 miles, you might only get 20-28(v max) mpg. You might pay through the nose to insure the damn thing, but.... the sheer pleasure in driving one of these is collosal. The 20v turbo does 0-60 in approx 6 secs, with top speed circa 155mph. When the turbo kicks in the hairs on the back of youe next stand up (by this point they are about 100 metres behind you). and it is FUN TO DRIVE.... a lot of fun,and when you aren't driving fast - you look v cool. This is one of those cars which common sense ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast, fun, great looks

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Depreciation, reliability

I would have bought a Fiat Coupe 20v but for a few reasons: 1) Very high depreciation (worth 45% of list price after 3 years) 2) Very cramped in the back 3) Poor reliability 4) Group 19 insurance It is a shame that Fiat still do not appear to have resolved their build quality issues, because this probably has affected their residual values too. But if these types of issues don’t put you off, the Fiat Coupe is a wonderful car to drive, and very quick too. Traction control enables you to make the most of the most powerful front-wheel-drive car currently in production, and the handling is very ... more
