The Marino Mystery

Advantages: For your opinion
Disadvantages: For your opinion

Hi, everyone. I am really into writing stories at the moment - I would really like to be a writer. Probably no hope but this is a story I wrote when I was ten. I have like ten million saved on my computer and when I saw this on ciao i thought i would put one of my earliest on. This is only the beginning and I'm very sorry if it's awful hope you like it though ...

CHAPTER ONE - IZZY

Isabella Flavia Relli Marino's whole ...
...loved cats, it wasn't her choice to love cats, but ever since she came to her aunt, she was given a cat on her birthday. She was now 12 years old, which meant that she had 11 cats. This was a lot but it didn't mean that Izzy loved any of them any less than the others (well Izzy liked to say that).
Izzy came to her aunt Ingrid in an unexpected twist of fate where her parents died. Izzy did not know how they died and it did not particularly ... more

Fade to Black

Advantages: My first attempt at fiction writing. Like, ever!
Disadvantages: It's a bit dark, isn't it? And is it any good?

When it became apparent that my 100th review, and my 2nd Ciao Anniversary/Birthday were likely to coincide, it became equally apparent that I'd have to do something a little special to mark the occasion. I took "something special" to mean "something new", and this is what that meant to me personally. I'm not a writer of fiction, or haven't been until now. There may be a very good reason for that, but fortune favours the bold, right? Either way, ...
...It's 6.30 in the morning. I know this because the alarm clock has just chosen this moment to come to life, interrupting a dream in which Angelina Jolie had just invited me in for coffee. I hate it when that happens. It's also Friday. I know this because I'd had an argument with my girlfriend last night about our weekend plans. She's invited her mother around for dinner. On a Friday night? I'm less than pleased about missing a night out with the boys ...

Extra Curricular: Chapter 1

Advantages: Saved me writing a review
Disadvantages: You'll see...

I started writing a novel when I was a supply teacher/unemployed, a few years back. I got to about 28,000 words, decided it was mostly shit, then scrapped the biggest part of it and started again. Only, then I got a job and soon afterwards a computer, and all I seem to be able to motivate myself to do these days is look on Ciao to see if I've changed colour or something. So, in what will probably turn out to be a vain attempt to motivate myself to ...
...novel. I'm not sure if the Ciao formatting allows italics, which may spoil some bits, but thanks in advance to anyone who bothers to read it anyway. 1 Jessica is beautiful. No. Too strong a word. Audrey Hepburn is beautiful. Was. Juliette Binoche is beautiful. Jessica is pretty. No, pretty is not the right word. Pretty is the sort of word that has been used so overused as to become an antonym of itself. While, in days of yore, telling a girl she ...

Bend & Break

Advantages: Hopefully people will like it, especially if you like CSI.
Disadvantages: Not sure.

Most of my friends on ciao know that I want to become a film director when I'm old enough, but I do also have a passion for writing. Over the years I have written quite a few screen plays, and maybe if I do well with the directing, I might be able to bring these screen plays forward and make them into a movie or even television show. For my 100th review, I wanted to write a story, one that is completely knew for this occasion. Back in English a few ...
...one of the famous writers, quite a few of us chose Shakespeare, back then I wasn't that much of a good writer, but I took that aspect of the story and put it into this one. I wanted to put a couple of relationships going on with the story, the point I wanted to make is that they struggle to find relationships out of the unit, so Alex and Mel were always going to go together, but I wanted to explore another relationship, so I thought two of the main ...

Delusion

Advantages: The first chapter of my book
Disadvantages: Not sure if I can swear

Ok, I'm kind of new to the Ciao cafe side of things, but I am currently writing a novel and thought I would share with you the first chapter. I apologise in advance for any offensive language, if anybody is offended please let me know and I will censor it. Thank you for reading. An ashen sky, that was how it started. But it was a matter of minutes before Alex Sewell knew something was wrong. He looked over the water to the land beyond and contemplated ...
...out here where his boat might capsize or at the very least suffer acute seasickness. “Shit!” He exclaimed. “Why the fuck does all this shit happen to me all the time”. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, a beautiful day and the promise of a days fishing in the still waters off Holland Haven. Of course, when Alex opened his curtains this morning the weather had been much better. The sun was glinting off the waves and the early morning mist ...

Domestic Violence

Advantages: Um... first draft.
Disadvantages: FIRST DRAFT!

(Sorry for the crappy title, but I didn't want anyone to read this and have "triggers" or whatever...) THE LIES You know, the constant lies I had to tell were the worst. I was forced to fabricate accidents, feigning clumsiness, and to suffer the causetum of them. You'd assume I would feel shame, or embarrassment, at being known for being accident-prone, but I didn't. Oh, I suffered from guilt and shame, alright, but it was for the untruths, rather ...
...utter a lie from my mouth, I cringed with regret, with shame, with abhorrence at my own abject apathy. I despised myself. He made me despise myself, in the beginning; but by the end he didn't need to, I could do it by myself. But I needed to tell the lies, because not to would invoke something altogether more shameful - a hideous secret, and the root of my misery. There are three types of lies: gross untruths, slight exagerations, and misleading ...

Fictional Pick N Mix

Advantages: Inspirational Stuff
Disadvantages: Explains too much about me!

How on earth do I whittle down all the fictional characters to just 10! Do I chose fanciable ones? Or ones I identified with? Ones that make me laugh? Or cry? Ones in books? Or in films? Or on the telly? Or just a pick n mix of the lot? Pick n mix sounds good... not that you'd get many in a bag and it would cost a small fortune by the time it was weighed at the checkout :o) These aren't in any order..... just put in your hand and pull one out of the bag :o) ******Boromir from Lord of the Rings by J.R.R.Tolkien****** No, not Sean Bean.... that's just the person that happened to portray him in a film! When I was 11 I read LOTR for the first time and instantly fell for Boromir... the buckets of tears that flowed when he died protecting Merry and Pippin! I know he was basically a baddie, but I am only female :o) He was ...

Fantastic Fiction

Advantages: books are friends!
Disadvantages: not enough time in life to read more

This is in response to the literature challenge set by Malu: Q. What is your favourite genre? It would be boring if I repeated everyone else's answer which is that I don't think books should be pigeonholed blah blah blah. So my answer is going to be fiction: all sorts of kinds of it for all sorts of ages. I'll read pretty much anything I can get my hands on. Q: Do you read the classics, i.e., the great authors of the 18th and 19th century? I read masses of them at university because I had to. I did enjoy them but not as much as I enjoy picking up the ones I missed now, and reading them at my leisure, not in time for a tutorial! I have more classics in my bookcases than anything else. Q: Are you interested in thrillers? No, I can hardly cope with an Agatha Christie. Actually, I've progressed to Ian Rankin ...
