The thinker's choice
Review of The Economist by Dan_ep

Advantages: Intelligent, easy to read, broad scope
Disadvantages: Pricey, no celeb news!

...am a real fan on the Economist magazine, and have now been a subscriber for about 2 years. I first started reading it as a kid, as my family got it, but always found it extremely dull at the time. However, with age and time, I've gradually realised how much of a quality journal it is. It comes out weekly, and find it gives me enough information to make daily newspapers largely redundant, and a lot more info as well. ------------------ OVERVIEW ...
...the most catchy or sexy name, but the Economist isn't all about economics. Its foundations certainly are in economics, but its articles cover a huge range of topics, be it the environment, arts, politics or science. There is a section on Finance and Stock Markets at the back, but I know plenty of people who have no interest in economics who enjoy reading this magazine. It comes out every Friday (the print deadline is 7.00PM Thursday), and is remarkably ... Read review

In Praise of ... The FT
Review of The Financial Times by snowflake5

Advantages: This is the best quality paper in Britain
Disadvantages: None

I love the F.T. I first started reading it about six years ago to check the price of some shares my parents gave me, and I have been reading it faithfully ever since. It's not just that it's taught me everything I know about finance, but I also feel it's the most neutral, least politically biased newspaper published in Britain. First some background: The Financial Times was first published in 1888 and adopted the distinctive salmon coloured paper ...
...In 1997, it launched the US edition and by 1998 it became the first UK-based paper to sell more copies internationally than in the UK. FT Deutchland which is in German, was launched in 2000. The Financial Times is rated higher than the Wall Street Journal, primarily because it is so accurate, authoritative and neutral (the Wall Street Journal by contrast has a neo-conservative slant and is not trusted in Asia and Europe). Rumour has it that the F.T. ... Read review

Chronicle for the Chronically Obsessed...
Review of Investors Chronicle by Kirsty1

Advantages: Information packed tight...
Disadvantages: Markets change instant by instant not week by week...

...gone and all serious private investors are now on-line, but there are always those danger points in life where I simply can’t get to the internet and on these rare occasions I buy Investors Chronicle. ***************************************************** Investors Chronicle, as the rather dry name implies, is a publication by the respected Financial Times group and retails for £3.25 for each weekly copy. Unlike its rival Shares magazine, Investors ...
...Sectors ******* Most investors want to have a balance of sectors within their portfolio so that the eggs are not all in the same basket but also naturally gravitate to those sectors that they know most about. Investors Chronicle is a useful tool for genning up on those sectors that make you feel less comfortable. This week there is an explanation on the difference between value added and knowledge-based industries, and there is an in-depth look ... Read review

Excellent Magazine - Subscribe for best value
Review of Shares Magazine by haconsulting

Advantages: Very good information and value for money
Disadvantages: none

I can highly recommend Shares magazine for the private investor or amateur daytrader. I find it to be easy to read, the sections are logical and make sense and it is generally jargon free. It tends to be written for the amateur daytrade market but contains all the informatuion that the more serious daytrader will need. It offers very good value for money on a subscription basis at £79 for 52 weeks (as opposed to a cover price of £2.20) and there ... Read review
