Advantages: Simple to follow. Lovely presentation. Disadvantages: Your baby may not want to follow it!
As every parent knows, the stage of weaning a baby from a milk diet onto solid foods can be a very daunting experience. I had heard the name 'Annabel Karmel' many times in reference to weaning/recipe books & was strongly advised to invest in one of her many publications.
I opted for the 'Baby & Toddler Meal Planner'. This best selling hardback book has been around for over 20 years now, but has been recently updated & has a clean, modern feel to it, along with bright colourful illustrations.
The book is split into several chapters:
Chapter 1 - 'The best first foods for your baby' talks about general nutrition for babies, allergies & other helpful information such as storage of babyfoods.
Chapter 2 - 'First stage weaning' lists the fruits & vegetables which are best suited to a young baby at the start of the weaning ...
Advantages: tasty, good for baby to hold and chew Disadvantages: go soggy fast
natural and organic produce which is made in an ethical and organic environment. They make their babyfood products with only organic produce and never include any arteficial colours, flavours or sweeteners. They make a wide range of products from fingerfoods, powders, pureed meals and more.
The rice cakes.
I bought a packet of their raspberry and blueberry rice cakes as I was wanting to find a snack for my baby which didn't just involve boring bland flavours or overly sugary treats. A lot of snacks tend to be fruits, yoghurts and crisps which are full of all sorts of additives and I was constantly being told that only homemade snacks should be given to my baby. I came across these rice cakes though and after studying the ingredients I decided they sounded really natural and quite tasty and so wanted to give my daughter a chance to try ...
Advantages: Plastic packaging, Organic Disadvantages: Not enough in the packet
Whilst I was shopping the other day I was in the baby aisle and noticed this babyfood. I have never seen these before although I have seen the brand name before on older childrens food items such as smoothies. I decided to pick a couple of these up to try.
The one that I have used is the carrots, apples and parsnips flavour. Ella's kitchen states that this is organic babyfood and only has these 3 food items in it.
The packaging is different to most babyfood brands and is simple yet eye catching. It is in a bright orange coloured plastic pouch and has the flavour of the food wrote in brown lettering. It has a screw top which is replacable when you have squoze out the right amount.
On the back of the packet it says:
Inside me you'll find:
*no added sugar, salt or water
*no additives or thickeners
*no E numbers or GM ...

Faced with a perpetual mealtime battle with her baby Millie, Jennie Maizels discovered it wasn't that Millie did not want eat, she just didn't want to be spoon-fed by anyone else. Faced with this independence, Jennie Maizels was forced to dream up ideas for foods that Millie could hold, like a mini pizza or a rice ball, until she was able to feed herself, and life became simple again. But all babies go through a stage when finger-held foods are the best way to feed them. Jenny Maizels has come up with a beautifully illustrated book using a wide range of healthy ingredients, cooked and uncooked, hot and cold, savoury and sweet. See all Product Description
