Advantages: Beautifully written Disadvantages: Slightly disappointing ending
Introduction
In an effort to wean myself off crime fiction, I searched the ordinary fiction shelves in my local library for some books that looked interesting and ended up with this one. Written in 1980 by one of India's most famous writers in English, Clear Light of Day is about the reunion of two sisters in Old Delhi. I know very little about India, old or new, but I found this book to be a fascinating insight into Indian culture.

Advantages: Great descriptions, fabulous verbal 'scenery' Disadvantages: Not a lot of plot
. This year I was particularly keen to get the set even before the winner was announced because I wanted to read Kiran Desai's book. There were several reasons for this - firstly I've read a lot of books by her mother, AnitaDesai, who has been short-listed three times but never won; secondly I have a particular interest (i.e. almost a whole IKEA 'Billy' bookcase-full) in contemporary fiction about India and by Indian writers; and finally, this particular book is set in Kalimpong, one of the Indian Himalayan 'hill stations' that's high on my list of places I want to visit.

This next review is on my time on The Blue Mountains National Park, located in Sydney Australia. A few friends and I had decided to hire a van and take a tour of the national park, as we had been recommended it by several people we had met along the way. I am usually a fan of national parks; it gives you a chance to take in the scenic view, it gives you a chance to relax and unwind if you have had a busy week, and you even get to see some wildlife. It?s a great experience, which allows you to camp overnight, whilst also have a magnificent driving experience.
History & Park Info:
The park covers 267,954 hectares, which included several mountains and rivers along the trek. The highest point of the park is Mount Werong (1,215 m), and there are some breathtaking views from the top. The area became a national park in 1932, and ever since ...
