It is a very good package, no question, but I’ve found that I prefer to work with CorelDraw for most things and the only facility I really use Fireworks for is to produce GIFs with transparent backgrounds. It’s a bit quirky, I know, but I’ve developed this as my own preferred solution and because I’ve got access to both packages I can mix and match without really having to worry about the cost – what a luxurious life I lead.

Macromedia have issued this new upgrade in order to prevent the competition from nibbling too fiercely at their heels and it’s intended to very much keep them ahead of the pack.
There’s a marvellous preview function now available which allows you able to preview your image in live mode. That means that in 2-Up or 4-Up view you can move or recolour an object, for example, and the preview images and their file size feedback will automatically update. Alternatively, you can select an individual image slice and fine-tune its settings in situ. Even better, the preview windows are also live, so you can quickly check your rollover effects without having to load your browser. The boost both to efficiency and ultimate image control is immense.
I have to say that for some strange reason I still find CorelDraw the better solution to my needs, but that’s probably because I came across that package first and can’t be bothered to un-learn all my duff habits.

...well look no further than Fireworks 3. A word of caution though: if you're a novice you may find this product a bit daunting at first. As with all Macromedia products there's something for everyone, however you may need to trawl the help files in order to be able get you started. However, saying this doesn't mean that the program is unfriendly, in fact far from it. I just recommend that you don't just jump straight in unless you've used other versions ... ...options and features. However, where Fireworks becomes a real winner is its seamless integration with other Macromedia products, especially Dreamweaver. When you are saving out your file ready to be used on your web page then all you do is get Fireworks to generate the HTML equivalent to the version of Dreamweaver that you are using. Then once in Dreamweaver you just insert a Fireworks object and hey presto, no fiddling, it's all done you. Of course ...

Fireworks 3 is the most useful web graphics tool I have used to date you can use it to make buttons banners text and headings for your web sites. You can create advanced javascript rollovers with the simplest of ease and export the html to go with the graphics in various formats depending on wheteher your html editor is frontpage, dreamweaver, ect. Advantages: Image and Animation creation, Good Compression tools Disadvantages: Not very easy to use initially
Fireworks is an excellent product for creating Logos, Banners and GIF Animations. It is not a very simple program to use initially, but after a few days of learning you soon get the hang of it. I have now created all of the Logo's, Banners and Animated Images for my web-sites using this product. I used to use Paintshop Pro, but I now use Fireworks all the time, the main reason for this is the export wizard which allows you to export your images in ... ...different formats. Also the ability to create animations in the same program is great (without having to startup a seperate program to do the animations). I bought this product as a bundle with Dreamweaver 3, therefore it was excellent value for money. Anybody wishing to create lots of images for web-sites really should have a look at this product, even if you only use it for it's export wizard functionality. ...

...able to make graphics. Fireworks enables even someone like me to do it. It took a bit of learning, but once you know what you are doing the features are amazing.
With fireworks, you can create roll - over graphics for web pages very easily, and the integration with Dreamweaver is seamless. You can also compress graphics very easily - you have a range of choices which enable you to pick the best compression for the image, rather than saying 'knock ... ...There is a batch conversion feature to allow you to work with a number of graphics in one go, and also a 'photo album' option, where you can make an online album just by pointing to a directory with all your photographs in.
The special effects tools will add bevels, glows and textures to shapes simply with a click. Even I can create nifty buttons with it.
For a graphics package, it is fairly inexpensive, and, if you buy it with Dreamweaver, it ...

...There is an excellent feature called the size wizard in which you determine the file size and Fireworks will attempt to get to it using different settings.
This program has also got the ability to do general image editing but does not contain as many features as other programs. ...
