I recently purchased a couple of timer switches, as I was going away on holiday and for security wanted some lights to switch on. I previously had some timers but they were old and the type with the little pegs that go in the time segments. I found that many were missing so decided it was time to buy some new ones. I purchases some First Alert Digital Timers (model number LS570UK)- I chose this brand as I was impressed with the smoke alarm I had purchased also manufactured by them. The timers were £15.99 from my local Toolbank store, (also know as Curtis Holt) but a friend of my purchased one from Great Mills, so I assume they are widely available. The timers have a 1 year guarantee and a CE safety mark. The timer has loads of functions (probably more than needed) but I was very impressed with two of them- The random time programme- which will switch on and off between two preset times, but will vary by 20 mins each time, which I thought was good, as it may be noticed that lights were always coming on & off and the same times. It also allows you to set up to seven days in advance, with upto 6 on & off's per day so you can pre-set for a whole week, (it will repeat that week at start of 2 week and so on, if you are away for longer) Although not particularly cheap-(push down segment ones and the peg style ones were available from £4- £5+), I decided to get the digital models as I hope they will be more long lasting-(no pegs to loose etc) The only bad thing is that I didn't think the instructions weren't great-(or I'm a bit daft!) I found that it was better to just have a "play around" with it to get the hang of using it.
