Buy a smoke alarm
Advantages silence/torch test features
Disadvantages none
If you do no more than read the first line of this option -PLEASE BUY A SMOKE ALARM-
If you are continuing to read I can recommend a good product-
Manufactured by First Alert the smoke alarm with Silencer and torch test retails for £10.99 and I purchased mine from Focus DIY Store.
The alarm carries the British Kite Mark and has a 10-year guarantee, it also comes ready to install with a 9volt battery.
The alarm has several good features which were my main reason for choosing it-
A silencer feature (for the times you burn the toast) it quietens unwanted alarms for 10-15 mins then the alarm returns to it's normal level of sensing.
It also has a remote torch test- which means rather than having to climb on chairs or ladders to test it, you simply shine a torch at the button and the alarm tests- although I would recommend testing when slightly dark, as in full daylight the sensor doesn't seem to detect the torchbeam.
I thought this feature very useful for the elderly and less able-bodied.
There were many other First Alert alarms in the store starting from £4.00,at this price can anybody afford not to be protected?

I like the silencer idea. Mine used to go off every time the grill was on.
Definitely a Vh - so what if it's short, how much can you say about a smoke alarm... you covered all the important points, and the most important in your first sentence. Cazz xx
