WHAT TO DO -------------------- Each morning before you get out of bed you need to take you temperature using the monitor. It has an alarm that remembers the time you first used it, and then on consequent days beeps at you to remind you. I put the sensor under my tongue and then doze off until the monitor beeps to tell me its finished.
The monitor then shows whether your temperature is below or above average
If there are two flashing babies on the screen - this means that you are now in your fertile phase
If there are two babies on the screen (not flashing) - this means you are in your highly fertile phase.
If there are no babies this means you are not in a fertile phase.
You only have to take you temperature for half the month - once you have passed your fertile phase there is no need to take your temperature until the next cycle begins.
HOW DOES IT WORK? -------------------------------- The monitor then records whether your temperature is below or above average. Your temperature may drop when you start to ovulate and then rise significantly following ovulation.
The monitor identifies the peak in temperature that follows ovulation and therefore tells you how many days you are fertile for each month.
WHERE TO GET ONE ------------------------------ I brought mine from Boots for £99.99 It seems a bit costly - but with other monitors you need to buy ovulation sticks each month(like a pregnancy test - but detects the surge in the Luteinising Hormone (LH) which only appears when you ovulate)- so in the long run this monitor will work out cheaper
In the box I also got a Registration card and if you send it off you they will send you: A quick refrence guide A First Response Ovulation test stick and instructions Money off vouchers for First Response Ovulation or First Response Pregnancy tests.
The average battery life of the monitor is 5 years.
Overall I have been really pleased with the monitor - for the first month it predicted a lot of fertile days, but the longer I used it the monitor was able to predict my cycle more accurately. We've been using it six months now and no kids - so it works for us
Advantages: once set-up its a complete no brainer Disadvantages: quite expensive(£99.99), a bit fiddly when your half asleep
I've invested in this little gadget as a last resort before going through IVF and I have to say it is quite a clever little thing.
Basically, it monitors your waking tempurature (which you have to do before actually getting out of bed which can be a bit difficult when it's 6am, its pitch black and your still very much asleep - ive also invested in a flash light for this reason as not to wake the hubby!) which determines your hormone levels on that ... ...a good day to to have sex - if it is a fertile day the monitor shows a boy and girl alternately flashing and if it detects you are going to ovulate within 24 hours it shows two solid boy/girl figures and is basically telling you MUST SHAG NOW!!!! of course this is not always convienient, especially when your man gets turned off by pre-programed demands for him to get it up when and where the monitor demands ( it seems they dont find this very sexy) ...
