First Trust Bank appear to have been a regular disaster with consumers since buying out TSB in Ireland. Error prone, they often fail to meet customer satisfaction in resolving relatively minor issues, particularly direct debits and overcharging on current accounts.

Currently mounting a vigourous campaign to attract local students (obviously in the hope of trapping as long term customers), many are unaware of the poor level of service. ... more

No trust at all

Advantages: Probably no worse than the others
Disadvantages: I don't trust them, they don't trust me!

...explain why this should be the case. There's the possibility that my experiences are unique and that it's not normally like this. However, my No 1 child will be going to Uni soon and will not darken the door of First Trust if i have anything to do with it! ...

Allways helped me more than any other Bank

Advantages: great customer service
Disadvantages: not as competitive on rates

I have bankeed with the First Trust for 5 years now and have found that while the interest charges and interest paid may be lower than others, they more than make up for it in service. Their internet banking is simple and straightforward as well as extremely accurate. My father has banked with differing UK banks but was surprised when after opening an account with First Trust that they even remembered his name after a month had gone by when he entered ...
...as any banking I have done I have not had the problems that I had with others previously and any mistakes have been rectified with apologies and refunds of charges. I cannot recommend them higher than to say all my family now have their accounts with them and are also singing their praises. ...

Total waste of space

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: The whole bank & staff

Having had an account with The Last Trust for several years & having no problems at the start I soon found that they were a total waste of time & money! You try setting up a direct debit & them setting it up correctly! I tried to set up such a thing & they totally screwed the whole thing up, costing me in excess of £70 in various charges that were nothing to do with me! Other than that they never saw a smile on any of the faces of the staff. They ...
...you. A friend had a problem when depositing money...they deposited it to the wrong account! That was about £1000 & is not to be sniffed at! In all this is the bank that I least trust & haven't a good word to say about them! ...

If you are not a UK citizen Beware

of this policy and they refused. So what cann yuou do . I closed my account and moved my mortgage which my father is now doing as well due to their outrageous way of dealing with someone who has come here to help the economy with his expertise. Thankfully the First Trust bank in Northern Ireland where I live had no such problems and I would recommend them anytime. ...

Nationwide - beats all the banks hands down!

Advantages: Full service bank account, extremely good value, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Punitive "bad behaviour" fees

I had banked with First Trust Bank in Northern Ireland for many expensive years, paying £3.50 to set up direct debits, £7.00 to cancel them and so on....... fed up with the excessive charges I made the jump and moved my current account across to Nationwide's FlexAccount. And I've never looked back! There are many reasons I would recommend the Nationwide and it's Current Account offering "FlexAccount", but the main ones are: Cheapness Everything, and I mean everything, in terms of day to day banking is extremely cheap using Nationwide's FlexAccount. For example, * no Direct Debit setup or cancellation fees * no overdraft arrangement fees * no foreign ATM usage fees (the only UK bank / BS to do this) * no foreign Debit Card usage fees (again, the only UK bank / BS to do this apart from Liverpool Victoria I think ...

With only 2,000 employees and three offices (London, Dudley and Derby), It should easily outstrip High Street giants Halifax and Lloyds TSB. Even if you pay your credit card bill in full every month (and the APR is not of prime concern), the perks with an Egg card aren't that great. There is no annual fee but you only ...
