I actually got my bouncer second hand but I would happily have paid full price for it for the amount of use I have had from it.
The chair has two musical entertainment options and one soothe option. The musical entertainment comes in the form of the arch, which can be removed to make it easier to pop baby in and out of the chair.
The music can be put onto constant play, where it cycles through several nursery tunes with accompanying flashing lights. It's not actually constant as it plays through the sequence maybe 5 or 6 times and then stops. However you'll probably find that your baby is quite fed up with them before that happens.
The other option is baby activated sounds. This is where the 'kick' part of the name comes in, as there are two pressure pads in the seat, one under each foot, which activate a variety of sounds and tunes when kicked. I found that I used the constant play option more in the first couple of months and then switched to the kick activated option when my little one became more wriggly. Unfortunately now he's so tall that his feet stick out further than the pads and he gets quite frustrated when he kicks like mad and nothing happens, not very good if I want him entertained. For this reason I've had to stop using this option now as well.
The arch also sports three toys which include a mirror. This was the only 'toy' my boy was really interested in, but he did like to stare at himself for long stretches of time. He's never really shown much interest in the other two, which could be because he couldn't reach them.
The absolute godsend with this bouncer, for me anyway, has been the vibrate option. My little one loves this aspect of the chair and quite regularly takes naps it it, soothed to sleep by the gentle vibrations. He loves it so much so that we've had to search around to find another playseat for him that also has the vibrate option, as he's almost grown out of this one now.
Another useful thing I've found, is that you can bounce the chair for your baby quite easily. Just put your foot on one of the 'legs' and gently tap your foot and you will get a nice rhythmic bounce going, then just vary the pressure to vary the depth of the bounce. This is generally nicer for your baby than the irregular bounce they generate themselves by kicking. If you position the chair 'just right' in front of you while you're sitting down then you can do this comfortably, and after a while it'll become so automatic you won't even notice you're doing it.
The bouncer does have a weight limit of 20lbs which is why we are now looking for a replacement. Even though he's grown out of it very quickly (he's very big for his age, 18lbs at 3.5 months old) I wouldn't have been without it.
The only problem I have had is that it seems to eat batteries. The arch and the vibrate have separate battery compartments (AA's for the arch and C's for the vibrate) and while I've only had to change the batteries on the arch once, I've gone through about 5 or 6 for the vibrate in the three months I've been using it. Since this seems to contradict what most of the other reviewers have found, this could be due to mine being second hand and the motor wearing out.
One bit of advice I would offer; I've found that if I put my son in the chair immediately after a feed (which I do most of the time) and put the vibrate on straight away, that it has a tendancy to give him hiccups. So now I leave the vibrate option off for about 15-30 mins and then switch it on for him.
I purchased mine off eBay and paid a whole £6.50 for it. It was also a local collect item, so no postage to pay. It was still in excellent condition, so I would recommend this as a way of picking one up cheaply.

My son was 15lb at 3.5 months and he was born a month early weighing 6lb 12oz! Some of just have piggies don't we? If you can't get a new bouncy chair have a look for a booster seat with a reclining back instead, mine was a godsend. Best wishes, Elle x.
