I was given this as a leaving present from my work colleagues and I believe it's one of the best new baby gifts I received.
The Kick and Play Bouncer is available from most shops (such as Mothercare, John Lewis and Tesco) and online stores (such as the Baby catalogue and precious little ones) at around £39.95.
This bouncer does so much. First it serves as a comfortable support for babies from newborns until they are able to sit up by themselves. Ideal to put your baby into while you are eating or if you need to pop to the loo! In fact when my baby was able to sit up I was suddenly at a loss as to where to put him safely while I got on with chores or answered the door.
One of the best features of this bouncer is it's vibrating mode. Powered by a D battery (secured by a phillips screw) the chair vibrates and instantly soothes your child. Although my son didn't have colic he did suffer from bad wind and would draw his knees up to his chest in discomfort. If we ever had problems settling him when he was like this we would put him in the chair on vibrate and it would calm him down instantly and most of the time send him off to sleep.
In fact we didn't use the vibrate function for the first two months of having this chair and the first time we tried it out he broke out into a big beamer - his first smile! He laughed for the first time in this chair too! Quick word of advice though - keep spare batteries. You don't realise how invaluable the vibrate mode is until they run out.
The other addition to this bouncer is a removable bar which clips onto the chair and sits in front of your baby. This takes two AA batteries and can be set to either continuous play mode or is baby activated.
On continuous play the bar rotates through 10 tunes whilst coloured lights flash above and down the sides of the bar. The tunes are a little 'electrical' sounding but I found my son had favourites (probably the ones I knew the words too) and would get excited when they came round.
I didn't realise there was a baby activated mode until finally my son was long enough to reach the pad at the front of the bouncer with his feet. When activated this plays sound effects such as 'boings' and then a tune. At first I think this unsettled him but after a while he was giggling at the noises and could see the cause and effect of his kicking.
Finally on the bar are three hanging objects for your child to reach for and play with. A yellow sun with a smiling face (that points away from your baby) with a mirror on the other side for them to look into and two hanging rings beneath it (my son liked to bash these together like castanets). Also a green flower with coloured balls in it and a red horseshoe shape holding a clear ball with a spinning disc in it. I have to say that even at the end of his time using this my son had to stretch to reach the toys.
The seat itself is a bright blue colour with star and swirl decoration and can be removed and machine washed (every Mum's lifesaver!). The bouncer can be easily assembled (it comes in 3 pieces) and can be stored at a slightly smaller size once disassembled.
With bright vibrant colours and detachable parts to suit your needs and your babys mood I would add this to your must have list if you are a new Mum or Dad. It may seem a bit pricey but you will definitely get your money's worth out of it.
