This is an adorable toy, with the cutest little face, no one could walk by and leave him on the shelf.
The fisher price laugh and learn puppy is both fun and educational and can be the take everywhere, best friend all little babies have. its brightly coloured paws, ear, nose and tummy all have pressure pads in them and when you press them you are greeted with either a word, sound effect or song. there are 3 settings all controlled by the pad within the orange foot, you can have the abc setting for learning, the musical note setting for music and games or turn it off.
The interactive features teach early academics, familiarising babies with words and colours. they will quickly learn when they are pressing the puppys foot and how it relates to their own body parts, they will also learn that the colour
green is called green, yellow is called yellow etc etc.
ABC setting- when you press the different limbs the dog will say different things
Yellow foot- says "You have my toes" "That tickles" and sings "this little puppy" which is an alternative version of "this little piggy went to market"
Green paw- says "So big" "yay" and recites "pat a cake"
Tummy- says "Hooray" "That tickles" and sicks "if you're happy and you know it"
Purple paw- says"you're my friend" "peekaboo" "i love you" and sings "heads, shoulders, knees and toes"
Blue ear(both ears are blue but only one withe ear written on it features an interactive function)- sings an alternative version of "do your ears hang low"
Nose-says "red nose" "you've got my nose"
Musical note setting- works the same as the abc setting by pressing the limbs.
Yellow foot- says "foot" "yellow foot"
Green paw- says "green" "green hand" and "yay"
Tummy- says "tummy" "you're fun" and "that tickles"
Purple hand- Sings "the abc song" "its a great big colourful world" "12345" to the tune of la cucaracha and"2 arms to legs"
Blue ear- says "blue ear" and "ear"
Nose- Says "achoo" "you've got my nose" and sings "incey wincey spider"
both settings also feature sound effects such as barking, running, applause and yelping. the puupy will also randomly, without being touched, say "hug me" "you're fun" and "i love you" this catches the childs attention just as theyre about to walk away and leave the puupy, it draws their attention back to the toy and adds a certain lifelike quality to the puppy. laugh and learn puppy has a pleasant voice thats easy even for parents to listen to and has fabulous sound quality.
Some models come with a plsatic yellow bone on the puppys chest, this can be turned to adjust the volume. not all models have this and in fact the model we own doesnt.
the limbs are all marked with the appropriate word for example the tummey has "tummy" written across the puppys top(or across it tummy in alterative models) the purple paw features a musical note whereas the green paw says "hand" this is to associate how the word looks with what it sounds like and where on the body it is. the nose isnt written on you just sort of discover that theres a pressure pad there too and only one of the ears is marked, the other has no interactive feature and allows the puppy to be carried around by its ear like most young childrens toys are.
It has a briiliant battery compartment, you are unable to remove it from the puppy as it is part of its body(this is great and stops kids being able to get the batt' pack out) It is enclosed in the back of the puppy and you access it by openeing an inverted T shape. first you open the vertical velcro fastening that is on the back of the puppys top, this then opens wider to reveal a horizontal velcro vastening. it opens really wide making replacing the batterys incredibly simple. you wioll however need a screwdriver as the hatch to the batteries is screwed shut, essential when it comes to baby toys i think. while the battery pack makes up the main part of the puupys body he is well padded enough to still be nice and cuddley.
it is made of all new fabrics, from polyester fibres, it has a warm velour type feel to it. it is very well made and i dont think theres any risk of stitching coming apart. the eyes are embroidered on so there is no risk of them coming off and being swallowed or stuck up the nose. there is one tag on it's bottom with the material details and country etc printed on it but if its of concern you can simply cut it off.
The puppy is suitable from 6 months until your little one grows out of it, it doesnt need to be for educational purposes as its soft and cute and cuddley. It takes 3aa batteries which come included. the only packaging is a tag which is to be removed before giving the toy to your child. It is approximately 11 inches tall. Retails at £20 and is available from ELC, Toys R us, Woolworths and other Fisher Price stockists.
My daughter had this as a christmas gift, she was 7 1/2 months at the time, as soon as she saw it her eyes lit up and she struggled foward desperate to get at it. she loves playing with it and tends to dive on it to give the biggest possible wrestler style hug. it gets pretty grimy being slobbered on by a teething baby but it is easily cleaned with a damp sponge(do not put in the washing machine!) i imagine he will have quite a tough life at her hands but im sure he's up to the job.
i recommend this to anyone with young babies, its cute, colurful and fun.
