Advantages Fun, cute & quality toy / Good value for money / No batteries required

Disadvantages May be hard to find

The Fairy Carriage is a toy made by Fisher Price and is part of the Little People range.

Suitability

The toy is recommended for children 2-5 years.

The first thing to say about the toy is it's very pink and girly - I wouldn't recommend buying it for a boy (although I'm sure many younger boys would be quite happy playing with it).

The Set

The set consists of a carriage, a horse, a fairy girl figure, a basket of berries and a flower.

The carriage is light green, with 3 pink wheels (2 big ones at the back and a small one at the front that keeps it upright) and is beautifully decorated with flowers. The inside of the carriage is split into 2 sections - both sections fit the fairy girl and fruit basket inside (although the back section sits the girl up slightly better than the front). There is also a little hole for the flower to sit inside. The carriage has a hook-like object on the front of it which sits in a hole on top of the horse. Attaching the horse to the carriage is very easy for little ones, although the design seems abit strange to me - not a disadvantage, just an observation..

The carriage is very easy to push along and the wheels seem to turn easily on all surfaces. The horse glides along infront.

The horse (called Pegasus) is made from a soft plastic and is nice and chunky. It is light purple, with darker purple wings, pink mane and tail. It is also decorated with flowers. On top of the horse (inbetween the wings) is a square-shaped seat for the fairy girl to sit in - she is very easy to put in and fits in slugly. The horse can be played with or without the carriage attached.

The fairy girl (called Sonya Lee) is also made from plastic and is nice and chunky. She has dark hair (with flowers in), a pretty material skirt (non removable) and greeny-transparent glittery wings. Her arms don't move but her legs do - she stands up very easily and sits down well. She also has a cupped hand which the flower sits inside. Sonya Lee is a couple of inches tall which makes her the perfect height to use in other toys too - dolls houses, toy veichles etc.

The basket of berries is quite basic. It is made of plastic, the basket is green and looks like a leaf, the berries are pink and look like raspberries. The berries are moulded together and cannot be removed from the basket. My daughter usually uses the basket of berries to 'feed' the horse and carries it around in the front seat of the carriage.

The flower is also quite basic. It is made of plastic, has a green stork and pink petals. My daughter uses it as a normal flower but also as a magic wand when in the fairy girls hand.
Educational aspects

The developmental benefits of this toy are imaginative play (making up their own stories), social play (playing with friends) and creative problem-solving.

Durability/Safety/Cleaning/Batteries

The set seems quite robust and durable. I have no complaints about its quality.

The whole toy seems very safe (no small parts, no sharp edges etc), can be wiped clean and requires no batteries which is always a bonus in my book!
