The Fisher Price Lullaby Soother Winnie The Pooh is a bedtime sleep aid that I can highly recommend. When I was pregnant I visitied my friend and her little girl had one of these. My friend told me how her little girl loved it and how it sent her off to sleep.

I purchased one of these from Argos before my baby was born. We didn't use it until she was in her cot sleeping at about 3 months old.

WHAT IS IT?
++++++++++

The Lullaby Soother features Winnie The Pooh leaning on a cusion to go to sleep. Winnie The Pooh is yellow and he wears a blue sleepsuit. He is lying on a white pillow which has the blue outline of a cloud on it. The cloud is where you push the button to make it work.

The cusion pad contains the light pad and the music box. The lights alternate between pink, blue, ORANGE, green and purple and it plays 10 different tunes to help your baby go to sleep. It also plays nature sounds and keeps featuring words like "Night Night" and I'm So Sleepy". The nature sounds include water and birdsong.

The control pad is under the pad which is reached by removing the pillowcase. There are 3 different time settings, 5, 15 and 25 minutes and also an off switch. You can select any of these settings, but it is a bit fiddly as you have to take the pillowcase off each time.

Winnie The Pooh is fully machine washable, but you must of course remove the electronic box from the pillowcase first.

It also comes with a remote control so that you don't have to be in the room to make it work. Winnie The Pooh takes 3 x AA batteries and so does the remote control.

SO WHAT DOES IT PLAY?
++++++++++++++++++++

It plays 10 different tunes, some of which I recognise, some of which I don't! It plays the classic lullaby "Go To Sleep Little Baby" "Loo Loo Skip To My Loo" and "Cockles and Mussles". While the tunes are playing it plays through the coloured lights and also has water sounds like waves lapping on a beach and birdsong as well.

You can select on the remote control if you want it to play birdsong and water noises only while playing through the lights. It also plays through the lullabies with birdsong and lights, but with no speach at all.

Words it says include Sweet Dreams, Night Night, I'm So Sleepy andit yawns.

DOES IT WORK?
++++++++++++++

Well we find that it does. We put Melissa in her sleeping bag in her cot and press Winnie The Pooh. Usually 15 minutes does the trick, 5 is not quite long enough. She associates it with sleep and once she sees the lights in her cot and hears the music she usually drops off quite quickly.

Like all sleep aids you must be careful not to become dependant on them so that you baby cannot sleep without them. If Melissa is very tired we don't usually put it on as she will be asleep immediately without it. We don't want it to be on every time she goes into her cot.

Also I always keep it at the top of the cot so that Melissa can't pull it on top of her as she does like it.

We have taken it on holiday with us and when we have stayed away from home overnight as we wanted her to settle and to have something from home to associate with. We found it worked great on holiday. She was in a travel cot in the caravan so we put in on the bed beside her and she soon dropped off.

Sometimes she awakes at 5am and I pop on Winnie The Pooh to indicate to her that its time to go to sleep and it usually works. She drops off again as it makes her think that it is still bedtime.

ARE THERE ANY DISADVANTAGES?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Only one or two. My husband hates it. It drives him crazy as it really annoys him, especially when it goes "I'm So Sleepy". However I have to say that it also works on getting the husband to go to sleep as well, because if it is on when he goes to bed, he drops off really quickly too!

The other disadvantage is that your child could become addicted to it, but it is up to you to make sure that it doesnt.

Also it does sound a bit loud when you start it up, but you do soon get used to it. A volume control might have been a useful addition when it was made just to be able to turn it down a bit.

DO I RECOMMEND IT?
+++++++++++++++++++

Yes I do. As a gentle sleep aid, it is lovely, it's a nice toy to look at and the lights and sounds are very soothing. I would highly recommend it to anyone with a baby or expecting one. It sits nicely in the cot and the baby loves it. It is not much use before 3 months as it won't fit into a moses basket and babies usually sleep a lot before that age anyway.

It is suitable from birth, it is fully washable and the batteries seem to last for ages. The remote control is very handy too as if she wakes up in the night I don't need to reach into the cot to press the button, I can simply press the remote control to start it up.

I paid £19.79 for mine from Argos and I see it currently has £5 off so you can get it for £14.79. An ideal christmas present for any new baby.

I have put some pictures of Melissa with her toy at the bottom. In one of them it was amazing, I laughed my head off when I looked into the cot and saw that she was arm in arm with Winnie The Pooh! This was long before she was sleeping in the cot, I had just placed her in it for a short while.
