The Fisherprice Musical Lights and Sounds Gym was given to my son Alex when he was about a week old. It is suitable from birth onwards, and will keep newborns through to sitting babies amused.
The gym features dangling toys, flashing lights and music (as suggested by the name!):
Dangling toys:
Three different brightly coloured shapes - a moon, a star and a 'sun', each with little dangly flaps for baby to each up and grab.
Flashing Lights:
Four ... ...flash rhythmically to the music
Music:
The gym plays 8 different tunes including twinkle twinkle little star, in the merry month of may, the farmer's in the dell, and other well know tunes. These are activated by the movement of the dangly toys. This encourages hand eye coordination by rewarding the child with a tune when they have played with a toy. There are two settings to the play gym - one for younger babies and one for older babies. The younger ...

Advantages: last ages and keeps baby attention Disadvantages: quite expensive
We bought this for our daughter when she was only 4 weeks old and it has been in constant use everyday since and she is now 8 months. When she was very little she used to look at it and follow the lights and because there are about 20 different tunes and 20 different light cominations she would spend ages looking at it. When she progressed to arm movements she quickly learnt to swipe the toys and start the music and lights again. I believe it helped ... ...to learn how to reach for things. Now she is crawling it is still in use everyday as it has a mirror on the side bar and she loves looking into it . The only down side is the mirror isn't a true mirroe its just shiney plastic and the images are very distorted. It is also very expensive but i can justify the price by saying it is an extreamly usefu; and fun learning aid. ...

Advantages: Keeps baby happy Disadvantages: took partner a while to put together!
We purchased this product as our 5 month old son was getting board with his activity mat. As he seems to be constantly moving and kicking his legs about this seemed like the perfect purchase.
We lie our son on his changing mat under the arch and let him kick away at the dangly items!
The centre can be changed to allow an older child who can sit up and play with it, the balls which are on the moving circle are detachable and when the arch is pushed ...

Advantages: Keeps baby amused for hours Disadvantages: none
I brought the musical lights and sounds baby gym for my 4 month old son and it is fantastic, it keeps him amused for hours, it has 2 options, one is to switch on the gym so you can leave it permently playing, which is great for a newborn who can't kick or pull the overhanging toys and the other is to switch it on and let your baby activate it by playing with the overhanging toys.
I particually liked the bright colours with the mirror which keeps ... ...the music and the stability, it couldn't be pulled over easy, It is well built and designed for newborns right up to the age of 24 months, I found it to be good value costing around £30, you will need to purchuse 3 size C LR14 batteries to operate it
I would recomend this toy for anyone with a newborn or young baby, it certainly let me get on with some housework. ...

When I and my partner decided to have children, nowhere in the manual did it mention running around with spray and cloth and holding child at arms length while urine was projected in an arch formation and that would be the easy bit!
Potty Training, oh more
My son was given the Fisher Price Power Touch Learning System for Christmas a few years back. It was when the Leap Pad's were all the rage and I had added one of them to his Xmas list. Instead of the well-known Leap Pad however, he was given this and it... more
