I first bought the fisher price musical mobile for my daughter 7 years ago, I spotted it on a trip to toys 'r' us - it was different to other mobiles i had seen so i decided to give it a go, back then it did cost around £19.99 but believe they have come down in price now to around £15. It lasted those 7 years - 18 months on a cot and then 4 & half years in a cupboard until my son was born last september which was when it resurfaced.

The mobile has two yellow straps on the top which hang over the cot and attach to a blue catch on the back, there are three holes on the strap to select from. This can be quite fiddly to do but once attached it stays in one place - no matter how much baby grabs it (believe me my son made a lot of noise just pulling the bottom end away from the cot and letting it drop back against the cot but it never came completely away).

There are two types of music to choose from, you can have your every day nursery rhymes/soothing tunes or bird song mixed with a waterfall which makes a nice change now and again. The mobile also has lights behind little animal pictures, these are quite softly lit and move up and down along with the music so it gives baby something to watch as well as hear.

The final difference is that it comes with a remote control - this is a godsend because it means you don't have to enter the bedroom to restart it and you can do it without baby seeing you. It can be started and stopped by pressing the big red heart on the front of the mobile, which baby figures out eventually by the way but my son found this quite funny when he realised last week.

There are two buttons on the back, one for the volume and one for the music setting - this can be set to play one song, continuous songs that last approximately 10 minutes or you can change the music. There is also a little pocket that the remote can sit in when the mobiles not in use.

The only disadvantage i can find is that like most toys it works on batteries, the remote requires 2 x AA whereas the mobile itself requires 4 x C batteries. I don't find replacing them is too frequent ( i think i've had to change the szie C batteries twice since October) but then again i don't use it every time he goes for a sleep so this may make a difference.

All in all this little buy was well worth the money in my book, it's lasted me 7 years still works like new and hasn't even discoloured. It's easier to use and less disturbing than a wind-up mobile and it's nice to have a variety of music rather than the same thing over and over again. I think fisher price made a great design and it really is a mobile pleasure.
