A baby jungle gym
Every baby likes a fun floor gym to play with/under and the Rainforest Melodies and lights deluxe gym is one of the best in my opinion. We were actually given this gym as a present last year before we knew the sex of our baby and the great thing about this gym is that it's multi-coloured and so is perfect for either sex which is great as although we have a girl now we may have a boy next and so its nice to have an activity mat that will work for both a boy or a girl.
Baby gyms in my opinion are a great baby toy as they promote new textures, new sounds, shapes, colours and activities. This rainforest gym brings out the sounds and sights of the jungle in perfectly bright colours and fun characters. If you like bold greens, fun moving animals and giraffes then this gym is for you. The bottom of the gym is padded, it is best described as having a quilted effect. It's quite soft for my little girl to lay on, and me and I like getting inside the gym with her and playing with her but is flat enough that even if she rolls off the mat there is not too much of a drop for her and she will not hurt herself. Around the edge of the mat is a sating border and I think this finishes off the mat well and makes it look quite well made and expensive looking. There is a scene of the rainforest on the mat which includes lots of bright colours and trees, leaves and animals.
There are then four arms that each attach at each corner of the mat and meet together at the top of the gym in the middle. Two of them include rainbow colours in the shape of a rainbow so it again looks like you are in the rainforest with a big rainbow over the top of you. At the top of this is a plastic box which then has plastic leaves coming out of the top of it. These leaves move when you turn the gym on. There are various different stuffed animals that you find in the jungle such as a parrot and monkey that you can hang on different parts of this gym. The links are plastic and allow you to hook them on and off. I think it's great that they are interchangeable as I found when my girl was very small she just laid in one position and I liked to move her favourite character to hang over her head and the fact that they were interchangeable made it easy for me to do this so she was happy with the character above her.
What's great is that this mat also comes with a soft giraffe toy which is very cute and one of my little girls favourites. The best thing though however about this mat is the lights and the music. I think it really captures the little ones imaginations and has been a firm favourite in our house. The lights are coloured and turn on and off in a sequence and you can see the wonder on my little girls face when these come off and one. There are also sounds, four different songs and two rainforest sound effects which I think add to the overall experience of the mat. In order to work all this you do need batteries, it takes 3 size C batteries.
I think this mat is probably suitable from birth to about 9 months. Once they get past this age although the mat is still good my little girl does not sit still enough to lay underneath something and watch/listen to it, when she was small and stayed in one place though, she loved it.
The mat is available from various stores such as Mothercare, Boots etc and costs £54.99
