On Sunday the car containing my lovely 18 month old granddaughter Courtney crashed and rolled onto its roof as it veered off the dual carriageway at 60mph. I received a phone call to say they had had an accident but it was four and a half hours later that she and her mum Gemma were given the all clear by the hospital. Gemma had quite a few cuts and grazes and mild concussion but amazingly little Courtney survived without a single scratch and it all down to this fabulous car seat by Fisher Price.
Priced at just £69.99 from Argos.co.uk I can honestly say this seat really stood up to the test when involved in an accident. Whilst suspended upside down in her car seat for at least five minutes until she was pulled free from the car. Courtney was held firmly in her chair and didn't budge an inch. She did have some red marks where the straps held her but these started to fade after just an hour.
It was just a few months ago that Courtney's parents upgraded from a rear facing seat to this front facing seat She had started to outgrow her other chair and had also discovered how to unclip her harness. Safe Voyage 1,2,3 seat can be used from
one year old and you use both the lap and diagonal belts so it is really safe and secure. The maximum weight is up to 36kg which is 79.37lb. Don't be confused with the sister product Safe Voyage Deluxe which only takes a maximum weight of 28kg which is 55lb.
Fisher Price use strict safety standards and all their car seats are certified for use in vehicles and aircraft so you know this particular seat will also pass airport regulations if you want to jet off to the sun. The company has been trading since 1930 so I feel they are a name you can trust. The chair is approved to ECE R44 03
If you do intend to travel with a child in the car then their safety should be priority.. With the new campaign promoted by ministers to encourage parents to use booster seats until 11 years old or 5ft tall then this seat has the added feature of including a booster seat so is ideal for younger parents to invest their money in as it will adapt with the child as it grows. I can envisage the use of booster seats becoming law in the near future.
♣UPDATE ♣ From Monday 18th September the New Lawwas introduced. Your child must use a booster seat if 12 years old or under and with their height being less 4ft 5" tall. Breaking the new law will lead to a £30 on-the-spot fine. Shops are having major problems keeping up with the new demand for booster seats
The suitability of child car seats depending on the weight and age of a child are placed into four groups
·Group 0 is the from birth to 9 months - these should always be rear facing and never placed in a seat with an airbag fitted. If your child grows quickly and outgrows this range then choose one that is designed for use in in the 0-1 range = 13kg
·Group 1 is from 9 months to four years old - If you can it is always better to keep the child rear facing as long as possible but their knees must be able to bend correctly. = 9-18kg
·Group 2 is from 4 to 6 years old - Booster seat suitable up to 15-25 kg
·Group 3 is from 6 to 11 years old suitable up to 22-36 kg
. Choosing the right chair for your child is very important. You may have noticed the chair Safe Voyage 3 Stage Booster Seat 1,2,3.has the numbers 1.2 and 3 after the product name so that clarifies the Safe Voyage is recommended for use from the age of 9 months to 11 years old. The fitting instructions depend on the type of vehicle that you have and it is stated that it fits most cars. This particular design uses the adult seat belt placed through and around the base and back of the Childs car seat. The route for the adult seatbelt is clearly marked and the buckle release is a nice bright red so that it can be seen clearly if your child had to be released quickly by the emergency services there is the manufactures telephone number included if you do experience any difficulties at all. It has so far fit quite easily into a Honda Civic, a Fiat Scudo and a Renault.
Courtney seems to really enjoy this car seat as she can now be placed facing forwards whilst her previous car seat was designed to be used as a rear facing one. In her Safe Voyage she looks really comfortable and head support rest can be adjusted if needed. She often dozes off even on short journeys where in the past she has screamed her head off just being seated in her previous chair.
Thank goodness it has the feature of a quick release buckle as even whilst the chair was suspended upside down with a young child's weight putting pressure on the harness it still undid with one easy click. The disadvantage from buying from Argos was you have to rely on the information and image given in their catalogue and this really is a bit sparse. Again there is a help line if you do require further information but it would be more useful to include it at the start. If you shop at say Halfords a sales assistant if you can track one down will point out all the safety features, fixing points etc.
Even though the chair was only bought a few months ago it will need replaced straight away as you should NEVER use a car seat that has been involved in an accident even if it is just a minor one. Seat belts and seat belt attachments should also always be tested after an accident
Cleaning the chair is very easy as the covers are washable. I would recommend hand washing as you may not want to wash every removable part and hand washing makes it least likely that the fabric will fade. For just a few small sticky areas it is more convenient to use a damp sponge.
Did you know 60% of parents fit the car seat wrong. That is an enormous amount and I feel they should be fool proof and unable to be fitted any way but correctly in the first place. Lives are at risk until the manufactures get this sorted

For the second time in months my darling grandaughter Courtney has been involved in yet another road accident. Yesterday whilst out with her daddy their car was hit from behind. The impact was so strong their car is now a write off but once again Courtney was kept safe and secure in this wonderful car seat.

My darling granddaughter Lauren were involved in an accident today after sliding on black ice under a bridge. using this car seat yet again she was held safely and firmly in place as the car spun then skidded to a halt. The buckle released without any hitches and Lauren is just fine.
I swear both my grandaughters are jinxed as they live in rural Somerset where the roads are quiet and before either came along neither parent had even the slightest knock before and I'm not taking either of them in my car ever again Lol.

I recently found out I am to become a grandmother again in November to a little boy so another Fisher Price Safe Voyage 3 Stage Booster Seat 1,2,3. needs to be purchased.
