Review of "Fisher Price Thomas & Friends Take-N-Play Busy Bee James"
It's been a while coming, but it's a sad farewell ciaoers.
My eldest son really got in to the Thomas Take and Play sets at around three years of age and we still have them all now as his younger brother now likes to play them with him. The Take and Play range is a series of plastic tracks that can fold up (hence the 'take and play' reference) and metal die cast trains to push along the tracks. My son owns a number of these trains and one in his collection is this Busy Bee James. The collection is recommended for children from aged 3 years upwards.James is usually a red train in the Thomas and Friends series but this variant of James is ' based off the episode, "The Green Controller", when Percy misunderstands instructions to tell James to shunt trucks as busy as a bee'. The train is approximately 7cm in length and 2cm wide. He also has a coal truck to the rear which is approximately 3 cm x 3 cm Both the train and the carriage are coloured with black and yellow stripes to give a bee-like appearance. The truck has James' characteristic number 5 on the side. The train has six black plastic wheels on the base (three on each side) and the truck has four. These allow the train to be wheeled along the floor, or track, freely. Both the train and truck have 'SMART' magnets on their front and rear. These allow the truck and train to connect to each other as well as to other trains in the series so they can be pulled in a long line along the track.
My boys are both quite attracted to this train. The bright yellow and distinctive stripes make it quite different from the other trains in their collection. Neither have seen the episode nor know the story behind Busy Bee James, but they like it none-the-less. It is a nice size for young hands to hold and manipulate and push/pull along the track and it moves really well. The magnets are strong so it attaches well to other trains, although we do find that the truck does actually repel the train one way round - something that is not supposed to happen with the magnets used here. The train is of a good quality - being diecast metal it is strong and robust. There is sign of wear and tear from the boys' play though as the paint has chipped and scratched - it is particularly noticeable on corners and edges. The train is currently priced at around £10 on Amazon (January 2017). The trains and track from the Take and Play range are a little on the pricey side but I think that this is a lot to pay for this train. That said, this is a popular train in our collection and is always well played with.
