As a child I had lots of Fisher Price toys - the house, the garage, plane, camper van and the school, to name but a few. They provided hours of amusement for many years.

I have just passed all of these old toys onto my daughter who is now 2 and she absolutely loves them. However, instead of her playing with my old antiques all the time, I thought I would go and check the shops to see whether Fisher Price still made these toys. I was amazed to find that they do, although they have been majorly modernised. They are now called 'The World of Little People' and seem to be a lot more durable, the figures are chunkier and there are extra 'sound' features included in most toys now.

My daughter was given the house for her birthday and she hasn't stopped playing with it since. I have bought her the train station for Christmas with various other small items.

The items that are available in this country are:

Dolls House
Garage
Farm
Train set
Rescue Centre
Construction Site
Garden
Safari Train
Separate vehicles with one or two figures

The nice thing about the toys is that they all link together, making a nice little village. They are all attractive colours, e.g. the house is pink, white and blue, and all come with figures included.

The main items like the garage and the house retail for £19.99, which I think is good value. Beware that some shops, e.g. The Entertainer, do put the price up to £25 so it is best to shop around; John Lewis, Bentalls, ToysRUs and Woolworths all stick to the rrp.

The smaller 'extra' items like the garden, the safari train and the rescue centre range from £9.99 - £14.99; you can also buy separate figures with a car for £4.99 each.

Some items are very difficult to get hold of. For instance, I would like to buy my daughter the farm for Christmas, but I cannot find it anywhere. John Lewis do not stock it at all as they have their own version which they would rather sell.

The Fisher Price website does not tell you where you can purchase their items, it purely gives a description and pictures of each item they make. The website address is www.fisherprice.co.uk.

The only drawback I have found is that there is not a wide enough variety of toys available. Whatever happened to the plane, the camper van and the school?
I think more items are available in America but we want them here too!!
