Advantages: a delightful cottage to house your sylvanian figures Disadvantages: none
It was my younger daughter's fourth birthday on Saturday and from her grandparents she received this delightful Rose Cottage which is part of the SylvanianFamilies range. They had already bought her a little family for Christmas but they didn't have anywhere to live - hence this cottage.
I love the entire Sylvanianfamilies range and I think all of the products are particularly well made with good attention to detail and this cottage is no exception. It is made of a very sturdy plastic but it almost looks like wood. The cottage has two rooms over two floors with a connecting ladder between the two. It has a door and windows that open and close at the front. The back is open though allowing the child full access to play inside it. Advantages: good quality toy Disadvantages: expensive
My eldest daughter was recently six and was very excited to open a large wrapped parcel from her grandparents. Inside was this wonderful Sylvanian Familes General Hospital. This was great as the girls already have a number of items from the SylvanianFamilies range so this was just adding to the collection!

Once you have a family or two there are so many houses and furniture sets which you can buy for them so that children can make up lots of lovely adventures for them. You can view the entire range at

Anyway back to the general hospital. This is a 'fully equipped' hospital ...
I have always enjoyed Rowan Coleman's books so I'm always pleased when I spot a new one of hers. I was especially pleased when I picked up The Accidental Family because I realised it is a sequel to one of her earlier books - The Accidental Mother. I had read this a while ago and really enjoyed it so it was interesting to see what happened to the characters afterwards. Having said that though, The Accidental Family can be read as a stand alone novel although it does have an added value if you read The Accidental Mother first.
In the first book Sophie Mills suddenly finds herself looking after her best friend's two daughters after a fatal car accident. At the end of the book, the girls' long lost father has reappeared and Sophie has fallen in love with him. They all move to Cornwall and this second book follows what happens as they start ...
