I simply hate washing the kitchen floor, its not that it’s a particularly difficult job to do (even when its been smeared with Cream Cheese Sandwiches and juice) I just find it very boring……not to mention uninspiring. However, these jobs must be done and so dutifully, every Sunday afternoon I get out my bucket and mop and add put a small amount of Flash into the bucket with some hot water. Oh yes, that’s what I’m supposed to be writing about, Flash, not ranting about how I hate cleaning the kitchen floors.

Coming in a medium sized, light green bottle with a screw on top that is used to measure it out, Flash is an ‘All Purpose Cleaner For Hard Washable Surfaces’. It can be purchased from Tesco (and I’m sure many other places too) for 99p for 1lt. On opening the bottle I’m greeted my a rather pleasant Lemon odour, not too overpowering, just enough to be able to smell it….but no more. The instructions on the back of the bottle come in four different languages – French, German, English, and I think Belgian. Also on the back of the bottle are four pictures showing the typical types of usage – Kitchens, Bathrooms, Bins and Pet Bowls and Out Door Furniture. There is also a diagram, which shows, without expecting one to read the instructions, that this product can either be used neat or diluted.

It’s recommended that Flash is used diluted - 2 cap fulls (one cap=30mls) in 5lt water – for painted and varnished surfaces (this is how I use it on my kitchen floor) but for all other areas you can use it neat. As with all chemical products it’s a good idea to test a small area of the surface to be cleaned – just in case their a nasty reaction. In addition, also because of it being a chemical its advised to wash your hands straight after use and to prolonged contact.

So does it work, I hear you say. Well I give a big resounding YES. Being the lazy housewife that I am, my floor gets a quick, and I mean quick, once over with the diluted Flash. As already mentioned my son is very good at dropping sticky bits of food/juice onto it, and I’m forever managing to spill things on the floor when cooking. This inevitably leads to a very sticky floor. However, just giving it the quick once over with this product leaves it smooth and clean! No need to scrub hard, just flick the mop head across the surface of the floor and hey presto - It’s done. Once my floor has dried its always looking, smelling and feeling very clean and fresh. Once this mundane job has been done, with a lot of help from Flash (no – not Keith) I sit my son down on the floor and he starts getting it ready for the next outing a week later on.

OK. Here’s the boring

Contains amongst other ingredients

Anionic Surfactants and soap <5%
Non ionic surfactants 5-15%
Contains Preservatives

Hmm, that about all you’re going to find out about the ingredients, not only do you have to look VERY hard to find that tiny piece of information out, it’s a bit of a waste of time anyway!!

If you want anymore information on this product the only thing I can recommend (apart from buying it for yourself) is to contact the manufacturers Procter & Gamble at:

Procter & Gamble, UKPO BOX 1EL, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE99 1EL, England
IRL: Flash, PO BOX 596, Dublin 14

Now, who’s going to volunteer to come and wash my floor tomorrow (I may well like the product) but I still hate the chore.
