Although when it comes to new food products I am proberly among the first to try them, when it comes to cleaning products I do tend to be a bit of a stick in the mud. I do sometimes try new things but always prefer to use tried and trusted brands. After all if you buy a new food brand you don’t like you can simply throw it away but something like a new bath or floor cleaner you usually finish up, having to clean the bath or floor twice and its bad enough doing it the first time.

I have use “flash” cleaner for as long as I can remember, in fact I can remember my mum using it. In those days it only came in one form. A cardboard carton with a green coloured powder inside, which first had to be dissolved in a bucket of water. Now days it comes in many different verities: - bottles of liquid, trigger spray bottles, creams and even little cloth wipes that you can just once then throw away. The one I am going to review to day is “Flash Ultimate Orange” all-purpose cleaner.

I had however seen countless adverts promoting orange cleaners and often been temped but I had all ways resisted until flash has now brought out their own version. You can buy it easily in most supermarket out lets: - Sainsbury’s Safeway, Superdrug, Tesco, Somerfield and many other places.

It comes in 500.ml or 1Litre sizes, although I am sure you can proberly get it in industrial sizes too. The average cost of this product is £2.09 for the 1 Litre and £1.19 for 500ml. but if you shop around I’m sure you find an offer of some kind on it somewhere.

The 1 Litre bottle stands about 28 cm high and is 13 cm across. It has an easy carry and pour handle built into the clear plastic bottle through which you clearly see the orange coloured liquid inside. The cap on the bottle is orange as is most of the lable, which also sports a twist of fresh looking orange peel. I found the cap on the bottle very easy to twist to open and close, easy even for the weakest of hands.

The label on the back of the bottle contains the instructions for use. There are two ways of using this. The first is to dilute it, by adding 2 capfuls to 5 litres of water, which is ideal for washing floors and paintwork. The other is to use it neat; this is best for cleaning the bath and worktops.

Ok so when it came time to use my flash. I opened the bottle and took a sniff, mmmm; it really does smell of oranges. I diluted it into a bucket of water and began washing the floor. There was little or almost no lather, which is good, as you don’t want the floor awash with suds. I then dipped my mop in and applied it to the floor. I found it clean quite quickly and really seemed to cut through the dirt. One of the best things is it does not need to be rinsed also the mop rinsed out easily. When my floor was dry, I was very pleased and satisfied with the results.

The whole kitchen smelt of orange, all nice and fruity and as for how well it cleans, exactly the same as all the other flash liquids. I don’t think the orange has really made any difference to how good the product cleans but flash for me has always been one of the best. I do intend to use this all the time if it is available, simply because I like the smell. Some of the other smells can be very off putting the lemon one smells like chemicals, the pine reminds me of toilets and the heather one is repugnant to say the least.

Well all in all I would recommend this product as one of the best, and it is nice to have caught up with the times, or at least I though I had until, after I had finish washing my floor I sat down with a nice cup of tea and one of those catalogues that come through the door containing house hold products. There inside it read.
