Flexi Classic Lead

When we first brought our dog I decided that as she was quite a big dog, I didn’t want to restrict her too much when it came to her lead so decided against a standard chain lead and went for a retractable lead.

We didn’t see the point in paying a fortune for a dog lead, so we went for a standard Flexi Classic Retractable Dog Lead. When I first purchased the lead I thought it was rather flimsy. It was really lightweight and quite cheap feeling. It had no weight to it whatsoever and it did concern me that it might break if my dog pulled too much on it as like I said, she is quite a big dog.

The lead I got stretches 5 metres, though they ones that stretch further if you desire. It has quite a small black casing with handle grip at the back. The grip is only plastic and has no kind of protective material around it so if your dog does pull a lot, it could end up hurting your hand as it isn’t very comfortable to hold at all, though it is nice and thick so is easy to grip.

It retracts well and I have found that the lead part doesn’t get stuck at all, nor does it retract too quickly that it could fly up and cause an injury. It i quite a smooth glide back into the casing. At the end of the lead is a silver clasp which you fit onto your dogs collar. This felt really secure and I didn’t feel like it would come apart easily, even with the dog pulling away from the lead.

Obviously the price of these leads differ depending on where you get it from, but they are generally available for around £11.50, which may sound expensive but its actually quite cheap compared to other leads of a similar nature. You can get leads much cheaper than this, but they would only be the standard chain lead which have no flexibility to them. You can get these leads from any pet stores or from online stores such as Amazon.

I was actually more impressed with this lead than I thought I would be. My first impressions proved to be wrong as I have had this led now for nearly 12 months and it is still going strong and shows very little sign of wear and tear. It is easy to clean as it is plastic and gives my dog the freedom to run around whilst on a walk, but still gives me the control over her if there are any other dogs or children around. The handle is easy to grip and it retracts nicely into its casing.

Overall I have to recommend this flex lead as my initial fears were unfounded. It has proved to be a very strong lead indeed for a very good price. A lead like this is suitable for all types of dogs, no matter what size. Recommended.
