Advantages: Quick, easy diversion in many ways. Free for you, not too expensive to caller. Landline only option. Disadvantages: Doesn't forward text messages, but none of them do.

There's not an option for fax reception and diversion to e-mail, but it's still possible to obtain a personal number and divert it to an alternative facility to get a more memorable number.
If you want an incredibly memorable number (and 07010 715 755 doesn't count so you can get lots of pretty good ones), then you have to pay for the privilege, but I doubt anyone'd need to.
Overall, I've had great service from Flextel, it's free, and diverts take place instantly. I've changed my mobile number 5 times so it's been more than useful to me.

Flextel offer a wonderful facility. Using this service you can register an account and attach a number of personal numbers to it.
The personal numbers begin 07010 and you can choose from the numbers they have left (except the really good/memorable ones which they understandably charge for).
You can then set these numbers to forward to your mobile phone or landline and there is no charge to you.
The caller does however have to pay a slight premium ... ...to Flextel to maintain this service).
The supposed reason for using this is to give out your number to people and not worry about it changing when you change your mobile, or to be able to redirect them to a different person at different times.
For this reason it does serve adequately, if a little expensive for the people calling.

We've had a range of Felxtel 07010 and 0870 numbers for at least three years now and have no complaints whatsoever with their service. I can't think of a single occasion that the service has been down in that time.
Updating of the redirection can be done via their national rate number 0870 321 0000, which makes it cheap and easy to do with a touch tone phone.
Unfortunately, they have wised up to the value of the more regular or palindromic sounding ... ...a purchased basis, but if you look hard enough there are some pretty good free numbers still available.
Another tip - flextel's service was originally provided supplied by 1-2-1, using their switches to route the calls. Hence, if you replace the rather expensive to call 07010 code with 07956, you'll only be charged at mobile rather than personal number rates.
Shame they can't get the technology to forward SMS's too, that would complete their service! ...
