You may have noticed I've written the odd review or two about iPhone application games in recent weeks...and you'd be right. So here's another one - Flick Cricket.
There's a game doing the rounds on the internet called Stick Cricket which is extremely addictive and enjoyable...unfortunately the Flick version is completely different, and not quite up to the same standard; but then again this application is free for all you good, good iPhone users.
The game is based on a six-over match, where the user always bats first and then attempts to defend the total as the 'computer' chases it down. On the main menu there are a couple of options - Quick Facebook Game, New Normal Game, Continue Game and Connect with Facebook. Now, I've not delved into the world of the Facebook options, but I believe it allows you to upload photos for players and keep people posted on your top scores. Fascinating, I'm sure.
To play, when batting, you 'flick' your finger across the screen to strike the ball in the direction you want it to go. Obviously timing is important, and you must flick faster for a harder shot. Longer strokes across the screen hit it higher in the air. There is a wagon wheel graphic at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen to show you where the player who is on strike has struck the ball.
When bowling, you select the bowler you want, be it a pace, swing or spin one, and then chose the line of the delivery. Naturally if you bowl spin for example, don't make it go too wide or else extras will be conceded. When bowling you can also change the field around freely.
And that is pretty much it. Not too much else to write home about, which is unfortunate...oh, it's a birds eye view so you can see the entire pitch, but obviously there are no player details, just mere circles. However, being a free application, you can't expect too much from this little number. Being a big cricket fan, it's great to see such a game available for all. But there are several thigns they could improve to get a higher gaming rating and popularity in the download charts.
If you're a cricket fan, grab this game. If not, go and check out Stick Cricket...now that's a proper game!
