Well, our darling daughter is now 2 years old and a bit, and several of her toddler group mates are being whisked off to nursery school for two mornings a week, so their mums can go shopping and get their hair done while they play. (Honestly, these are the reasons they gave! LOL) Not seeing that as an overwhelming reason to pass dear daughter over to the education authorities and being a qualified nursery teacher, we decided to do learning activities at home and continue with toddler group. Our health visitor mentioned there was a huge home ed community in our area and gave us contact information, so out of curiousity, we emailed and asked for information. Lo and behold, they do swimming sessions at a fancy children's pool and we were welcome to come join in the fun!
I rang the pool to enquire about what sort of nappies they would accept.Either disposable swim nappies or reusable ones were fine. I scoured the web looking for some cheaper than what the pool was offering to sell me for an extortionate price. For little dear son, I bought an Aqua Nappy made by Floaties.
DS is very small for his age. At nearly 6 months, he is the size and weight and proportion of the average 3 month old, one with sparrow legs, so I needed a nappy that wouldn't let anything escape...ewwwwwwww
The Floaties Aqua Nappy fit the bill. They look like miniature blue bikini cut swim trunks and are very slim fitting. The legs and waist are gently elasticated so that whilst fitting our little birdie legs, will stretch comfortably over a chubbier baby, and providing good containment in case of the worst case scenario. The inside is lined with soft tricot type lining, so the entire nappy dries fairly quickly, and the outside seems to be regular swimsuit fabric.
I have to say this is really cute on a baby. The little rolls of baby podge are visible and not hidden by a large baggy nappy or cosi with built in nappy. I am probably just maudlin, but there is something adorable about podgy baby tummies pooching out over the bikini cut LOL
Now for the practicalities , other than quick drying. The nappy goes on easily, and stays up, even on a skinny, wriggly baby. It also comes off easily when you wish to take it off. Wrap it up in the towel amd place in your swim bag, and it will be nearly dry when you get home. It washes at 40 or 60 quite well, and air dries in a flash. It holds its colour well (I bought dark blue), and have had no problems with perishing elastic, shrinkage, or anything else. this is such a good swim nappy that I would not mind one for our daughter, the reason we are going to the pool in the first place! I have not yet located one in her size that is in stock, so am currently using a bag of Asda little Swimmers under her swim cosi, which gets exspensive. If using one of these Aqua nappies for a girl, be advised you will either have to go topless or in a mismatched top, or wear it under a traditional swim costume, as they do not make matching tops. Not that it matters to me either way!
I bought the nappy second hand for just under a fiver, but you can buy them new for £6.95 from John Lewis. I do think they are good value if you are going to go swimming regularly or if putting your child regularly into a paddling pool, etc.
