ABOUT THE SEAT
It's the wrong season to look for swimseats in the shops and having recently purchased a Floaties Aquanappy, I went to the official Floaties stockist on the web, www.styrox.co.uk.

Before I start, I know this probably isn't the most appropriate category for this review, but I had trouble deciding where it should go (and if anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to say so!). Suffice to say, it is NOT a bath seat!
Anyway, I'm warming to my theme now on all things swimming-related (see my last review on Floatie Aquanappy!). As I mentioned then, I have decided to take up swimming in a bid to lose my pregnancy weight. Far from it being a lone pursuit, my husband and daughters have got in on the act and made our trips to the local pool a family affair. Fortunately, Gavin is not a keen swimmer, so is more than happy to linger in the baby pool with the kids whilst I practice controlled drowning in the large pool.
WHY WE NEEDED THIS SEAT The first time we all went swimming, I think I burned more calories hopping between the main and baby pool than I did actually swimming! Gavin was finding it difficult to cope with a stroppy 3-yr-old (reluctant to get her bikini wet) and a slippery, wriggly 3-month-old without one or all of them suffering a water-related accident. The solution was a swimseat for our youngest. We'd seen other parents using them successfully & felt confident that if our baby was well supported in the water, I might stand a chance of getting some swimming done.
ABOUT THE SEAT It's the wrong season to look for swimseats in the shops and having recently purchased a Floaties Aquanappy, I went to the official Floaties stockist on the web, www.styrox.co.uk. I plumped for the smallest seat, paid and waited. It arrived the very next day (that's service!!). I excitedly ripped open the parcel and was confronted with an enormous pile of yellow PVC! I immediately inflated the seat (I say immediately, but it took a lot of puff and a rest inbetween to achieve inflation!). The seat basically consists of 2 rings and a backrest. The outer ring is emblazoned with the Floaties logo & the size of the seat is printed to one side. There is a warning that the seat should only be used under competent supervision. This ring has it's own inflation valve. The inner ring is attached to the outer ring by 5 pieces of PVC & they do not come apart. The seat itself is part of the inner ring. It is sturdy double-layer PVC & looks a bit like a pair of pants. The inner ring has it's own inflation valve. The backrest is also attached to the inner ring & has it's own inflation valve. The inflation valves are very substantial & have those things in them that stop air escaping if the lug comes out. You do have to squeeze them quite hard in order to inflate the seat.
POOL TEST To save time, we inflated the seat before we left home. Once in the pool, the seat bobbed nicely on the surface. Right, time to apply the baby...oh...At this point, we realised that it is extremely helpful to have 2 pairs of hands! The seat had a mind of it's own & it was quite awkward getting both our baby's legs through the leg holes at the same time. After a bit of juggling, she was in! I was pleased to note that the seat held her quite low in the water, so she wouldn't get cold too quickly. Infact, the water almost came right up to her shoulders. The outer ring was floating on the water, the inner ring slightly submerged. Her weight was well supported, but because she's at the youngest end of the age range, she tended to lean a bit to one side. This didn't actually submerge any crucial bodily bits required for breathing, so we didn't worry too much. Off she bobbed, closely followed by Gavin & our eldest daughter. We did find that we had to keep a very close eye on her as the seat could quite easily drift off, but it took the hassle out of clinging on to a slippery baby.
BABY'S REACTION Confused at first ("What on earth are you putting me in now?!"). She was a bit miffed when she realised that she could not splash her hands in the water (can't reach over the rings!). But she could kick her legs. She doesn't like to be held all the time, so it gave her independence. She particularly enjoyed being pushed up & down the pool.
GETTING OUT THE POOL Virtually impossible on your own!! The combination of soggy baby & wet PVC means that it is exceptionally difficult to separate the two!
In conclusion, we loved it. I'm managing to get some swimming done and the girls are having a great time. We've found that our youngest does like to come out the seat for part of the session to give her the opportunity to have a good splash, but on the whole, a really useful item!
Advantages: safety Disadvantages: having to blow it up and deflate
we first bought this to go on hols with my daughter at the time she was 6 months old so bought one off ebay to see how she went. Well she took to the water well I loved this It allowed me to stand beside her and let her play away it gave me the confidence to put her in the pool without a worry as long as someone was standing next to her she thought this was fantastic.
The floties swimseat is now and older product there is lot of new ones coming ... ...this is the one I recommend for putting your child first into the water.
You can get these in different sizes which start at about 3 months of age 3-12 months (6-10kg)
10-18 months (9-12kg)
18-36 months (11-16kg)
They are all price about 12.99 each which is a good price you get other that look about the ame for less money but I thought good with the name brand as my childs safety at risk here and has been good so far.
When my seat arrived I ...

Advantages: Floats well, it's just brilliant Disadvantages: None.
This is probably my most treasured item from our trip to Lanzarote earlier on in the year. I am SOOOO pleased we bought it and took it with us. I think we got it new from ebay for less then £10 including delivery. When it arrived, I immediately blew it up and hated it, thinking it was too big and that my daughter would hate sitting in it (she used to hate swimming anyway). It's bright yellow and is square in shape with a hole in the middle and a ... ...a back rest to prevent them from toppling backwards. I think you can get it in different sizes as well.
Anyway, despite my reservations we packed it and took it away with us, and I am so glad we did. The first time we went in the pool, we sat her in it and she just LOVED it. I think it was the fact that she didn't have me or her Dad clinging onto her constantly that really made it for her. Obviously we always stayed close by, but she had a bit of ...

Advantages: Gives my baby freedom in the pool without being held Disadvantages: Hard to get in and out on your own
This is a great product and one that i would readily recommend to anyone with a baby. At the weekend i was in the local swimming pool with my daughter and put her into her seat, It is a bit difficult to get baby in and out on your own, as the water movement and the baby wriggling and the fact that i haven't got 4 hands all add to fun in the transfer, once in the seat she loved being able to kick her legs about. The seat gives me the freedom to play ... ...the time and also to be able to pass her on to another person to play with her while i go for a swim and know that she isn't in any danger of been dropped as she wriggles about alot. One of the disadvantages is that the babies can't reach the water to be able to splash with their hands as the rim is quite wide and my daughter is only 9 months old. Another mum was in the pool without a seat and having lent mine to her for a few minutes she was going ...

Advantages: Gets baby used to water Disadvantages: None
This swim seat is the perfect way to introduce your baby to water. It is perfect for them to go in until theyre confident enough to wear a flotation jacket or arm bands. The seat is soft and easy to place your baby into. It feels very safe and there is no worry of baby climbing out. It is ideal if you just have a baby but also great if you have other children in the water too- my son loves holding it whilst he practices kicking his legs. He also ...

Advantages: Easy to use, comfortable and safe Disadvantages: Take also to blow up, need a pump
We purchased one of these when my twins were 6mths old for their first trip to the pool. Both of my boys loved being in it, it is very secure and comfortable. The leg holes did not cut into their little legs as some swim seats do. The back is cushioned so that when they wanted to lay back they were supported and did not get afraid.
The seat itself has a very safe design, even with my two thrashing about trying to "swim", it was never in danger of ...
