FLORA BUTTERY What is nicer on a thick piece of hot toast than loads of butter? Much as I love butter though I try to cut down because of the cholesterol in it. I can’t stand ‘light’ or ‘low fat’ spreads on toast – all it does is make the bread wet, although I love olive oil I’m not too keen on the olive oil spreads So my compromise is to use the Flora Buttery spread Flora is a well-known and trusted product, it is part of the Uni Lever Company and was one of the first soft margarines to be launched in the UK in 1964. It was created after the medical profession asked the company to create a ... more

Advantages Advantages Spreads easily and tastes alright

Disadvantages Disadvantages Still not as good as butter

In an exercise to find something tasting wonderful like Butter to spread on scones and sandwiches, but with fewer calories I have been trying different spreads. I happened to notice Flora Buttery taste which had been advertised on television was on offer at only 84p in Tesco, so decided it was worth a try. Can you believe what you see on television? I had used Flora before but wasn’t a convert so doubted whether this would be any better but the television adverts showed it tasted good. Surprisingly it not only spread easily it tasted better than some low fat butters I had tried, so much so ... more

Advantages Advantages Tastes delicious, reasonable price

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too many of those dreaded calories - blast!

For quite a few months now I have been using Flora Buttery, until that is the doctor told me that I have to loose some weight as I am a diabetic, but more about that in the coming opinion on Diet Flora! I thought I’d take the chance to tell you all about Flora Buttery before the final tub in the fridge was all finished and forgotten about. It comes in a yellow, butter coloured pack, which helps with the psychology of thinking it is an alternative to real butter. As for the taste, Flora Buttery tastes exactly as it is described on the tub, it has a lovely creamy buttery taste, and as I am a ... more

I tried flora buttery for the first time last week as a tub of it was on offer in my local costcutter at 86p for a 500g tub and as I love a bargain I thought would give it a go, and I was not disapointed and ended up going back and buying three more tubs at the bargain price! Flora buttery is a unilever product that comes in a plastic yellow tub that can be recycled when finished with the flora brand in dark green which is their trademark, it states on the tub that it is made with seed oils which contain omega 3 and 6 which are good for the heart and if you have two 10g servings per day it ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy To Spread, Can Help To Reduce Cholestrol

Disadvantages Disadvantages High In Fat And Calories, Quite Expensive

When it comes to Margarine I have to admit that I don't mind spending that little bit extra on Flora. I have tried the Supermarket's own brands with varying degrees of success but I find that the really cheap "No Frills" varieties often resemble a hard block of tasteless Grease and are very difficult to spread. This is the main reason why a tub of Flora Margarine can usually be found in my fridge and the present moment is no exception. The tub that I have at the moment is a 500g tub of Flora Buttery Spread. Flora Buttery is made by Unilever and is just one of the many different versions of ... more
