I sat nervously awaiting the optician to bring the results to my eye test.
It wasn't good! I knew that if i bought glasses i would be made fun of by everyone! Despite hearing nothing but nightmares from members of my family who also wear lenses, i decided to get an assessment and i was given a box of focus dailes lenses.
The box
The box of lenses has the basic focus daily logo on the front and on the sides is your contact lens prescription.( which i don't want to mention!!! embarrassing!).
Now once you have gone through the hard part of getting your prescription and contact lens assessment, you might think everything would be easier from now on. WELL YOUR WRONG!! what am i talking about?
Opening the box of course! My first attempt of opening the box ended very badly, ripping the box in half and the relatively precious contents came crashing to the floor! So a great deal of skill is required to carefully get the box open and protecting the contents, which i have to stress is very important.
The box is made of a cheap cardboard, which serves its purpose if you don't rip it in half! One of the biggest statements that the box claims is the "all day comfort".
From my first hand experience this is very much true and i enjoyed "all day comfort", but i will talk about that a little bit later. It is a good idea to label which box is for your left eye and which is for your rihgt. It is inevitable that you will put the wrong prescription in different eyes so that is my top tip.
Packaging
If you mange to get the box open, then the daily disposibles are packaged to make them extremely easy to use and convienient.
They have a "tear and share" system as it were, and the convienience of throwing them at the end of the day is safer.
The actual lenses come in a plastic casing which has some saline solution already in and if you are a novice at putting the lenses in your eye then i would highly reccomend buying some solution separately, because if in the process of applying your lenses it falls out, then there is not enough solution to clean it, so keep that in mind if you are new to lenses.
The plastic casing that each individual lense is encased in is safe to keep in your pocket but make sure you dont have any sharp objects in your pocket if you do so.
Applying the lenses and the feel of it.
Now then, once you have gone through the hassle of getting your lens assessment and ripping the box in half and finally opening the packaging, the hard bit for novices begins. I would estimate that the first time i put my lenses in it took me around 30 minutes so i would bare that in mind if you have a busy schedule and if you are optimistic. The methods of appyling the lenses that your optician will give you are NOT the best. I know it sounds strange but DONT LISTEN TO THE PROFFESSIONALS.
IT WILL TAKE YOU LONGER!!! I devised a simple yet very effective method.
All you have to do is pick up the lense with your index finger and place it in the palm of your hand. If the lense is floded in half, gently unfold it and place in the tip of your index finger like shown in my photo below.
Then with your right/ left index finger pull down you eyelid as also shown in my photo below.
Then gently press the lense that is now sitting on the surface of your eye to get rid of air bubbles. Note: this is essential because if there are air bubbles it will cause irritation and also the risk of the lense falling out of the eye will greatly increase.
Check the photos below that show you what to do step by step.
COMFORT: Regarding the comfort of the lenses the box makes a bold claim that it gives you all day comfort and with my first hand experience i totally agree.
From the time you put your lenses in your eye to the time you take them out there is absolutely no irritation( unless you keep it your eye longer than prescribed).
It is so thin and the plastic is very soft so it feels like a part of your eye and you will barely even notice that you are wearing lenses!
Also i finally have some confidence when walking in public and i dont have to keeping taking my glasses off for the camera!
Obviously there are some health issues concerning wearing the lenses for too long or not following precautions properly, but i will discuss this a little later.
As the vision itself i will downright say to you that it is so natural and better than glasses. It is all round vision- this means that whatever direction you look you can see, whereas in glasses it is only staright vision.
The benefit of having all round vision is that you can do all kinds of different sports which require you to to look around more.
Also it is better because you get that natural feeling, which i cannot explain to you in words. You can't tell the lense is in your eye!
Health and Safety+Precautions
Here are a few precautions that i have spent a lot of time coming up with:
Make sure you wash your hands with soap and dry them before you handle your lenses
If your lense falls on the floor make sure you thoroughly rinse them with solution.
When applying your lenses always make sure the room is well lit.
Use a mirror to help you see what you are doing.
Take your time- dont rush putting your lenses in especially if you are a novice as this can further damage your eyes.
Dont wear your lenses for more than 12 hours unless it says so on your box
Make it your routine to take your lenses out at a reasonable time every evening.
As sometimes you can forget that you are even wearing lenses make a note beside your bed to remind you if you forget to take them out.
Avoid gardening or dusting as this could lead to an infection.
What could happen and what should you do
I you sleep with your lenses on then when you wake up the lenses will be full of eye deposits that usually accumalate in the corner of your eye. Also the lenses will start to ditatch. If this happens then the first thing you should do is rush and GET THE LENSES OFF. Once then lenses are off then it makes sense to start washing your eye with water. ( I found that unfortunately when the same thing happened to me cold water is more effective). Also after washing your eye it is a good idea to take a break from wearing your lenses, maybe a week or so, until signs of irritation have gone from your eye.
If you feel that a dust particle or a strand of hair is stuck under your lenses then you should take your lenses out and rinse them thoroughly. If your eye is irritated and remains that way for more than 24 hours then you should see your doctor.
Practicality+price+where to buy

If you feel a bit frightned by the aspect of wearing lenses but you want to give it a go i would highly reccomend getting yourself a pair of focus dailes. If you want overall better all round vision and an increased level of confidence then this product is definiately for you. Now you are probably reading my review and are waiting to hear the bad news, yes thats right,THE PRICE. Now the price for this product definately varies on the amount of comfort you want and where and how you buy it. I will tell you the secret right now. The contact lens assessment actually cost around £35-£45. The best place to get this done is at boots opticians because they have the best deals and i had mine done at boots. So pop down to your local boots opticians and heres the first trick. They will ask you for £35 for the assessment but say that you want to go on the direct debit scheme. This is a sceme that most opticians do but the rewards are definately better at boots. If you say when you arrive at the counter that you want to get set up on the direct debit scheme they will make the assessment free and they will make all your check ups (you have to have them every six months) for free aswell. Now dont worry about this obviously you will want to start buying the lenses and it will cost you around £13 a month for them and they will get delivered to your house every month. You can choose how many lenses you want and when you want them and it is not a contract and can be broken at any time. And here is where my trick comes into plan. You go to the r and get a direct debit set up, in doing so you get a free assessment and you pay less for the cost of your lenses which is a bonus. Now after a month or so on the direct debit scheme they will ahnd you your contact lens prescription and with this you can go on to different online websites that sell lenses even cheaper. The only way to get your contact lens prescription is through the direct debit scheme. Online you can find a nice cheap package which suits you and when your contact lens check up are due you can sign up to the direct debit scheme for a month and then quit again, in doing so you will save over £100 over the course of the year.
End
These are great lenses and they are affordable if you choose my technique and comfort is guarranteed. Next time you go to a party you will have COMFORT,CLARITY AND CELEBRATION!!!!
