Forbidden Planet is a chain of stores, located in many UK cities, that specialises in Science Fiction, TV and cinema memorabilia. I have been avid fan of the store since I was little, and if ever a shop could be described as an Aladdin's Cave then this would have to be the main contender. I have been in three or four different stores and the size and range of goods varies considerably. All the stores have done their utmost to cram as much in as they possibly could, and a trip to the shop is a weekly ritual, in order to de-stress after a particularly hectic morning. The great thing about these ... more

Advantages Advantages Great source of sci-fi collectibles!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hard to find the stores!

I first set foot into one of these stores many moons ago in Bristol (can't remember exactly where) and I was on the hunt for some X-Files posters and collectors cards. The store was big but didn't exactly look inviting to the average consumer/browser. What it did do though was catch every eye of every sci-fi fanatic and demanded their money be spent right away on the latest gadget or action figure. The layout -------------- What you will fisrt notice when you walk in is the large number of students lurking around chatting, and checking out the Star Trek figures, Doctor Who magazines and some ... more

I've been a customer of Forbidden Planet for some two decades, since it's days as a much tinier outfit in Denmark Street. Having been to a couple of their other outlets, I guess my comments on their London flagship will apply generally. Forbidden Planet certainly has an excellent range, from the latest superhero comics where men have rippling muscles and the women have immense chests outwith the effects of gravity; to European and Japansese imports about porn and Manga caroton ultra violence. The New Oxford Street store has a huge selection of books too. On the downside, as noted in the other ... more

Advantages Advantages Almost everything for Sci-fi fans.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not a great number of branches.

A few years back I was an almost obsessive X-Files fan and this shop helped feed my obsession. The one closest to me is in Glasgow, and its brightened up a bit since I used to pop in frequently those years back. It seems roomier and lighter now and has everything for sci-fi fans. If you're looking for something rare or unusual, you're probably most likely to find it in a Forbidden Planet shop. Unfortunately, there isn't many of these shops about. As far as I know there are only 2 of them in Scotland (Edinburgh and Glasgow) and the last time I was on their website, you couldn't order over the ... more

Advantages Advantages Has everything a sci-fi fan could want

Disadvantages Disadvantages Is a tab bit small for all the stuff it has

This is one of my favorite shops! I worship this shop. Its the headquarters in Glasgow and its great, small but still. The shop has manyly sci-fi things, but it has also Anne Rice books and Steven King novels, not to mention posters and videos. I would say a fair amount of people would enjoy the shop, but some might think it was sad and never set foot in there. But it always depends on what your a fan on. For example, and ER fan would not go into the shop as there is nothing on ER in there, but for a Star Wars or even Star Trek fan there is a fair amount of things to look at. Also, in the back ... more
