Had three of these cars in my time and i am looking for one at this moment. A bit silly really, but in my younger days (now 42) always used it as a hobby, and you could vurtually do anything to these cars. Unlike modern cars, the whole inside could be changed by means seats are very easily changed along with carpet and dash board. This always made the fitting of stereo systems and graphic equeliser a dream. There are negatives with these cars and that needs mentioning. All the models i owned were 1.6 and the cosumption wasnt good. I used to get around the 20 to the gallon around town and up to 40 on a run depending how i used to drive. The car is not a sports car and they do not hold the road very well, to make things a little better i opted for low profiletyres of good quality as i lost the back end once or twice. All three of my cars had the same problem.....they all stated to rot under the rear hatch, right where the latch mechanism is. I tried alsorts from wax to underseal, but in the 10 years i had these cars, it couldnt stop the rot. The capri is great for moving stuff from A to B, its nobodys business what i have got in the back of the car as the seats go flat down and the rear hatch is wide. I used to be a plasterer at one point and everything went in the back including step ladders. Never had any real problems mechanically, except......now remember.....the Capri is made by Ford. And Ford around the time of the manufacture of the capri didnt like starting in damp weather. I had stating problems at some point with all three of them and it was always when the weather was wet. It was a normal procedure for me to spray Ether in the air filter intake to flare up the engine when raining. I had to change the carb on all three, but again, it was a hobby car and it was easy to work on.It was a 30 minuite job to change the carb on a capri. Another fault with them is the locking and security of the car. Pretty poor, i had one nicked in Leeds and it must have been a piece of cake for the toe rags to get in, as lots of keys could open a 1976-1980 capri, so if one of these cars is now purchased, better locks need to be fitted. They are fun to drive, comfy and roomy. To a lot uf us avid Capri people, they were the dream car and once owned, you couldnt do nothing but love them, and thats why i am looking for another one as we speak. Overall.....Not great on consumption, Great to drive, Plenty of room inside, But needs security upgrade, Do tend to have rot patches if not kept close eye on, But can do anything to them, i would swap my beamer for one tomorrow.
