Vauxhall cavaliers x3 [Dave loved them] V W Passatt [my favourite at the time] Ford Mondeo [had to leave it when I left home]
My Father had bought his Escort a few years previous and travelled all over the Country with my mum happily at his side. He had brought back a number plate from America saying Arizona and placed it above his own car number plate. Every one commented on it.
Then when they decided to buy a new car I was the favoured child at the time and they decided to give me their Ford escort and to my suprise I realised how much more effiecient it was to all my other cars. I noticed that on my long weekly runs to Bridlington that I didnt need to use as much petrol so that gave me a saving on my pennies, getting up garraby hill was a breeze, when all my other cars had gone chigga boom ,splurt , cough cough. The windows were electric so instead of burning myself with my cig whilst trying to open the ashtray I could now just press a switch and hey presto the windows were open and out went the ciggie. I now had ajustable seat control, anyone with short legs like me could just push the seat forward, I could have the seat higher or lower depending what shoes I was wearing at the time. I also had a sun roof, I could either open it fully or just have it on a slant to let in a cool breeze. A radio that blasted out in the front as well as the back, it saved the kids having to repeatedly tell me to turn the radio up. I could recline the seats to any position I wanted. The boot was large enough to throw Dave in, if I ever plucked up the courage [never did] so had it either full of bags of shopping, plants or Cojo my dog. It was very spacious inside even for the kids to fight. [which they often did]. Best of all it had power steering, no more hot sweats trying to turn corners. Inside the bonnet was a doddle too, easy to reach for the window splash bottles to fill or the engine oil and radiators to top up... and I easily found the dip stick..
Its Quite a few years since dad gave me his car and yes I still have it, I proudly drive around Leeds and Bridlington with my Arizona plate on the back, so if anyone sees me give me a honk or a wave...
