We bought our Escort secondhand about 3 years ago from a well known secondhand paper. We decided to buy from there as our car previous to this one we also bought and had no problems with it.
The Escort is metallic grey and is the original K reg. Had about 79,000 miles on the clock when we bought it and was in excellent condition.
First impressions of the car was, great, nice size family car, English made, so parts are easy to come by, and I have to say that in the 3 years we've had it, its always passed the MOT with minimal things wrong.
The Escort is 1.6 engine with the spoiler kit on the back (as standard with a lot of the models for that year). Great sized boot which houses the spare wheel.
The interior of the car is very spacious. Grey material covers the seats, floor and roof. On my car I have a manual sun roof which you can open fully or tilt along with a sliding cover, which is great on a hot day as you can have the roof open with the cover closed so as not to get too hot and not get any bees flying in!
The dashboard is standard Ford. There is a rev counter, mile-o-meter, water temperature and fuel indicators directly in front of the driver. The windows in the front are electric but the ones in the back are manual and are child proof (they only go down half way). The back doors have a child lock on them and can be activited at a flick of a lever.
On the dashboard as well is the clock. The clock also has a red light next to it. This illuminates when you turn on the engine and set the immobiliser. If there is a problem with the alarm system this light will stay illuminated for more than 5 seconds.
There is also a button down by the handbreak that will open the boot from inside the car.
The immobiliser is standard on most Ford cars. Attached to the battery and horn, will go off when a door or the boot is opened before the immobiliser is turned off. I have had a few problems with this as the alarm went off a few times for no apparent reason, but was checked by the Ford dealer who found nothing wrong with it.
A full tank of petrol on the Escort is around £35-40 and is very economical. I only really do the school run and £20 worth of petrol (half a tank) will last me over 2 weeks.
Overall the Escort is a good sized family car. Very easy to drive and handle. I'm not going to go on about the engine as I haven't got a clue. Very easy to park and would recommend them to anyone.
